"Other" (non-medical) careers to support horses?

I will add, since this old thread was first started, I switched schools/districts. And I had zero flexibility at my new school. And zero time for horses. And boatloads of stress. While I was proud to be a part of such a well regarded school, I’m so happy my husband took a new job that forced relocation… because that school was killing me.

It all depends on the school and the administration.

I second the school district making a difference. While I had good hours teaching (if you don’t count the take-home correcting and lesson-planning) I did not have flexibility. My district was very strict about time off. You had to get special permission to take even sick time at the beginning or end of a holiday or vacation (for fear you were just extending your time off, I guess) My nephew teaches in another state and his district is much more lenient with time off.

I made decent money since I had a sixth year of college and extra responsibilities. And now I have a pension!

I once took the test to be an air traffic controller and was accepted to the training. finally decided not to do it. I am tense by nature and do not like making snap decisions. I don’t think I would have been able to do that job long term.
