Old Friends TB stallion retirement center.
Keeneland will be opening the fall meet either right after or beginning the last few days of the WEG, so you might be able to see some famous race horses at breakfast.
While Keeneland has an open backstretch policy, it is courtesy to stay out of the barn aisles - I feel the need to reiterate this just because of the people I see every year (not you, just generally) going through the barns themselves. Makes me twitch.
A drive through Midway is always fun - Most of the big TB farms won’t have the big stallions there - (Darley, Lanes End, Three Chimneys, Adena Springs, etc etc etc) They have a high percentage of stallions that shuttle to the southern hemisphere. Claiborne doesn’t, but I wouldn’t bank on any other farms (esp if there are particular horses you want to see) without asking specifically if they’re there.
And try to eat at Jalepeno’s on New Circle Rd - Fantastic mexican place!
PonyGrandma, thanks! Will I see you at some point?

Adena Springs is located in Paris now Their stallions don’t shuttle and it is worth the trek out to Paris to tour the farm. The new farm is GORGEOUS!!!
Speaking of art, I need to mention and highly recommend these. I have seen the Andre Pater Retrospective and it is magnificent and plan to see Hoofbeats and Heartbeats soon. Pretty amazing stuff.
At the Horse Park itself, in addition to the Saddlebred Museum, there are many exhibits and a very interesting library that is open only weekdays. They have horses representing many breeds in residence there year round, where you can go up to the stalls, see the horses, etc. There are usually foals out in the pastures. They have people who know about harnesses and harnessmaking, all kinds of great stuff. I don’t know whether there will be more or less of that than usual during WEG.
If you won’t be there during the eventing, you will probably be able to go out and see the course, especially after, and see for yourself what those jumps are like.
I love my Quillin’s halters and leather goods. http://www.quillin.com/
Also, second (or third) Jalepeno’s for great margarita’s and food! We always end up there at least one night when we show at the KHP.
Ramsey’s for good southern food!
Lexington has plenty of good restaurants around where you can get a good meal. There are some fun places downtown to go for a drink in the evening too
When going out to Keeneland, please remember that the final days of the Sept Yearling Sale will be going on the first weekend of WEG. It may be a little hairy going out there that weekend
Since when have Three Chimneys, Lanes End, and Adena shuttled? Darley and Hill-N-Dale shuttle some of their stallions, but a vast majority of the farms do not. If you are going through Midway, don’t forget to check out WinStar!

And see WinStar’s BEAUTIFUL training track…that track is GORGEOUS!!!
For food, you MUST have a Hot Brown while in Kentucky…DELICIOUS!
Woodford Reserve bourbon distillery in Versailles is beautiful and fun. Great gift shop. Cindy Wolf equine bronze studio is also in Versailles. Beautiful bronzes and she also has beautiful sculpted soap and jewelry. Kesmarc Horse rehab center. Pool, Auquatreds and hyperbaric chambers for horses has tours. If you get out to Winstar my farm is right in the middle of it if you get a hankering for warmbloods among all the thoroughbreds <s> Asian Wind is fabulous chinese food near Keeneland. If you get to Midway there is a great art and gift shop called Damselfly with lots of horsie art and unusual gifts and just up the street is Freedman’s harness shop. The most wonderful place to spend half a day is Irish acres. Its a bit of a drive into the countryside but when you go through the doors at Irish Acres you’ll feel like you arrived at Oz. The retaurant there is called the Glitz and you’ll need reservations. Fantastic lunches and the most amazing collection of antiques and gifts anywhere. ok There are a few <s> ohh almost forgot Wallace Station. The BEST sandwiches and lunches. In the middle of horse country on Old Frankfort Pike.
Oh man…I almost forgot Wallace Station. No one going to WEG can miss going there. The sandwiches are divine!
If you want to spend a night on the town, 4th Street Live in Louisville always provides some good entertainment.
Touchstone - I must pass by your farm all the time then! I’m out at WinStar once a week.

I’m still in disbelief…Wallace Station took my fav sandwich off the menu. I’ve been eating the same sandwich for 6 years!!!
Stop by sometime Bugsy! I live right in the middle of Winstar in the little yellow farm.
There are THREE museums @ KHP
Be sure to see the International Museum of the Horse and the Saddlebred Museum, but don’t forget the newest one- the Show Jumping Museum @ USHJA Headquarters. It moved here from Tampa after Inbev bought Anheiser-Busch. The Show Jumping Hall of Fame is located under the permanent grandstands of the new stadium.
It’s already been mentioned (twice, haha) but I wanted to mention Joseph Beth bookstore. I always stop there when I am in town. The Artique Gallery (a really neat shop which has nice jewelry at all different price ranges and other fun stuff) is right next to the Joseph Beth - The Fayette mall is nearby as well. Shaker Village is fun too.
Enjoy Lexington - it is one of my favorite towns!
The Breeds Barn won’t be open during WEG and its resident horses are being housed elsewhere. The Breeds Barn arena will be used as the Clinician Corral of the Equine Village. And I believe one of the Drill Teams will be stabling in stall area.
The Hall of Champions WILL remain open during WEG.
Definitely get a Hot Brown while in Kentucky! Soooo good. Brown Hotel in Louisville is the birthplace of the Hot Brown.

Darlin Jeans in Midway makes a delicious Hot Brown also if you don’t want to drive to L-Ville. Also Wallace Station makes an inside out hot brown sandwich.
