Our elderly dog has a huge leg tumor - experiences?

Good for you- for giving her the best chance to have a high quality of life for as long as possible. I applaud your careful research, and your deep love for your girl.

HUGS to you, many jingles, and thanks for being a five start advocate for your girl.

I just had a lump removed from my 12.5-yr-old standard poodle’s elbow. Histopathology came back as a grade 3 soft tissue sarcoma. The recovery wasn’t bad and my vet said he wouldn’t recommend terribly aggressive treatment. Just keep an eye on it. I asked if I need to have chest rads done, but he said he wouldn’t bother. If it comes back, am I likely to try cancer treatment? Since the answer was no, I’ll just enjoy her as I have every day of her life.

Thank you again, everyone!

She came home yesterday. She just lay there crying and moaning for hours and hours and I was certain we’d made a terrible mistake, but she finally relaxed and went to sleep.

This morning she jumped up and insisted I take her for a walk, and we went almost a mile with her tugging ahead in excitement. She hadn’t even had any pain meds. She’s walking better than she has in a while… hadn’t even realized how badly she’d been walking till today. XD

She’s not got much of an appetite, and she actually seems more uncomfortable lying down (I think the stitches tug just wrong), but I feel much better about this than a couple days ago. They weren’t able to get the whole tumor, so at her checkup in a couple weeks, going to ask about chemo.

Jingles for a nice Sunday for you two !

Great! Glad to hear she’s doing well and you’re feeling better about the decision. Jingles for the future.
