We have a show in two weeks! Cowpony turned western pleasure…I’m not sure he can pull it off! His jog is like riding a pogo stick, and he’s very forward!

We showed some last year in hand - QH halter geldings and Showmanship. The judges are NOT looking for his type in the halter classes, but it got him out and about. At the end of the season, we were doing pretty well in Showmanship.

This is our first year showing under saddle, in the Green Horse division. He’s 5 and this is our last year in the walk/jog division. Next year we’ll be in open, or I’ll need to take the year off if he hasn’t mastered the lope yet.

AGH! I can’t believe its in two weeks!

And just go out, do your best, and have fun. My retired jumper horse who is a morgan does western events (including pleasure and horsemanship) with a 4-H rider who is borrowing him. He still doesn’t even lope (he definitely canters :lol:) and definitely isn’t ideal but he can certainly pull it off ok. I’m sure you and your horse can do it! What matters is that you enjoy your horse and set reasonable goals.

UPDATE: No show for us! My geldign came up lame yesterday. Wednesday night they apparently got spooked and were running around in the field (they are kept at my parents house and they could hear the horses running around).

He is lame on his left hind. It’s not going to be better in two days

Haha, I was going to post when I read your first post “one persons pogo stick jog is another persons forward, springy trot.” :lol:

THEN I saw the pictures and was too busy drooling over the most perfect blue roan horse I’ve ever seen. I love roans.

Yes, I dread trotting on him, unless I can post; which I obviously cannot do showing western pleasure! And I never eat or drink a lot before riding him…LOL!

He’s beautiful!!! Glad you are giving him time to heal. I missed the first show of my season due to horse back soreness. But we just did the second show two weeks ago and my girl did great. Let us know how things go.

I’m picking up some poultice tonight on my way home.

I’m giving him 1 gm bute AM & PM with alfalfa cubes & NeighLox. He’s in his stall today with pillow wraps on. I will put him out in small paddock tonight for a few hours and then poultice him and put him in for the night.

I know he isn’t a stallion, and no I do not want to breed my mare, but I love his bloodlines and he is a gorgeous gelding. BUT if I was looking to breed, I WOULD consider a stallion like him. (yes, I know he’s a gelding). :lol:

UPDATE: His lameness…100% abscess in the heel! It blew out on Tuesday, two days before out vet appointment! Of course! He was sound on Wednesday, and our appointment was yesterday. I kept hte appointment (my luck he would’ve been off again if I had cancelled it!)

Vet agreed that the rupture in his heel bulb area was an abscess that blew out, horse moves sound at all gaits and directions, vet said I could ride him when I got home from my appointment.

Now, after 20 days off…I’m sure THAT will be a fun ride! I’m putting him back into work tonight. We have a show on the 22nd…
