We went for a r![](de yesterday, and my niece has been pestering relentlessly to ride Bugs (aka Crown). I said I’d pony him and see how he reacts to things, and she might be able to ride him a little bit if he seemed calm.
This horse is fabulous. He was so calm and easy, my friend, Robin (smaller than me!) got on him and rode him away from our horses. He didn’t love that, but he didn’t misbehave, and then a deer jumped out - right in front of him - and even separated from the other horses, he just barely twitched. At that point, I told my niece I could pony her on him if she wanted. She stayed on a leadline for about five minutes, then rode him for three hours. He led, went through all kinds of obstacles, played in the water, and was perfect at a canter even. Jaden did get a little nervous as they cantered by me on Jet, ponying Jula, but I told her to sit back and tighten her reins and say whoa, and he came right down to a trot. I was so proud of her for listening and following my instructions even while being a bit spooked.
I have to say, this is one of the most impressive trail horses I’ve met, and that’s saying a LOT.
Pretty guy being ponied -
