Over 100 horses found starving on farm in Orange County Virginia
This is probably worthy of a good article on some very powerful people in a scheme of some kind. I bet there is more to this story. I hope whatever they were doing comes to light.
D.C. media has given the story some coverage. The more attention brought on who these Directors are, the better, as far as getting increased coverage. A retired Rear Admiral, a nonprofit “expert,” and one of the very highest compensated executives in the nation. #OhMy

Here is an easy way to help the survivors.

Thanks for posting that Laurie! I saw the FB link and donated, but it’s great to put it here too. It gives me a way to help a little bit.

What really irritates me is that some of the board members could give so much to help this. I wonder if any of them are doing anything to help, besides consulting with their high priced attorneys, and planning CYA.

Not sure how much difference online petitions make, but this is one I did not hesitate to sign. With all the mega millions amongst the BOD of PF, surely each can spare this much:

Any updates? Wasn’t there a hearing today?

bump

is there any new info on this?

Had lunch today with someone who is intimately connected to this case. From what she told me the next hearing is on 11/18 or around then.

She also said that with the news swirling around that Goland was getting $48K/month as a divorce settlement in mid 2014, it does not necessarily mean it started at that time or has gotten it. No one really knows at this point.

Much remains to be learned.

That said (about that high alimony and when it did or may have not started), the BOD are zillionaires and have not stepped up to the plate to ante-up for the very intensive care costs for the horses, dogs and cats that were found alive and will need long time rehab.

That issue, unto itself, is extremely troubling for a BOD to just go hide with the uber $$ they have.

Wait and see time.

local news is doing a piece on this tonight:

Goland/Shumate was granted bond today at her hearing. No word on if any of the animal cruelty charges were heard. Furthermore, it had been said her sister was one of those caring for the horses that didn’t get seized. I wonder how the sister is accomplishing this since she went back to Newport News after (what I read was) allegedly being kicked by one of the horses? I sure hope the authorities are keeping a sharp on those remaining horses and other animals.

I am sure Goland/Shumate is quite lawyered up.

I am sure the BOD would just like this to go away, quickly.

Disturbing news about the sister … I too hope the animals don’t get lost in the sensationalism of this case.

We can all only hope that those involved (animal control sheriff’s office whose continuing investigation goes on involving other states as well as the iRS) – and others do “due diligence” for those creatures remaining on the farm…especially since the sister had now left and Goland is out on bond.

Hope someone is parked at the front gate before she moves to another state like she apparently did from the offenses of the same kind and relocated from Md to VA.

We can’t let this become, as horse owners, as sensational as this is, become “out of sight and out of mind”.

She has money behind her and obviously the means to move, so she may well do so. I hope the animals have a safe landing … and future landlords google the name she’s using if she does flee!

A little due diligence on renters by landlords might at least thwart her a little bit. The horse community must be wise to her now, as well…this was a lot of publicity and hopefully no one will sell her nice horses at this point.

I’m confused by this update:

"Goland must follow several conditions to remain out on bond. She is not allowed to own any animals and can not go to her property without the supervision of sheriff deputies. Her horses are in her sister’s care. "

Is she required to sell the horses that she presently owns? We’ve heard the sister is out of the picture, so who is taking care of the horses that are left?

Another update

So it took AC from May to October to get a search warrant? Very sad.

lachelle’s link reports that AC was there in Feb. and came again in May at which time they were denied access to the property. So they just said, ok, thanks, and forgot about it? Shameful.

Seems like AC just dropped it until pressured again beginning in August.

Either AC dropped the ball, or VA law is just terrible. Neither of which makes me feel any better about the situation. Animals can’t wait for the law to “happen”. And if AC truly did drop the ball in regards to the complaints placed in earlier months…then they have blood on their hands too.

Had action been taken months earlier perhaps some of those horses would still be alive today.

Of all the horses the most heartbreaking story I read on facebook was a girl looking for her horse. She posted his photo on all the facebook groups when news about this case dropped, just looking to see where he was because she thought she had given him to a great home. All AC was able to give back to her was his ashes. Terrible. I cannot fathom the heartbreak this girl felt.

Update:

http://www.ratemyhorsepro.com/news/judge-schedules-anne-goland-animal-cruelty-trial.aspx

There were dozens of dead dogs and cats inside her residence. Is she not being charged at all for that or are they separate for some reason? Anyone know?
