Paging a steward! Rider is 18, can she sign as trainer?

Yes, if there was a drug violation, trainer would be penalized, in your case, as a parent you would be responsible for the violation

@lcw579, yes, trainer is penalized for drug infractions. So yes, you would have been responsible - you would have been fined or sanctioned or suspended or __. I think this is why the rule was changed (parent who signs as trainer must be a competing member) - so that USEF can apply the penalty. Riders are not responsible for drug infractions under USEF rules (I think FEI is different).

I expect itā€™s less about a few thousand dollars in extra fees they might collect and more about the fact that USEF has no disciplinary power over anyone who hasnā€™t joined as a member. So if the childā€™s horse has (for example) a positive test, they canā€™t impose penalties in the same way on a non-member parent.

Right.

So many people have tried everything to avoid responsibility for positive drug tests in horses that it has come to this. Itā€™s too bad for the honest people, but the honest people always get burned because of the dishonest peopleā€™s ducking and dodging around the rules.
