Yes, if there was a drug violation, trainer would be penalized, in your case, as a parent you would be responsible for the violation
@lcw579, yes, trainer is penalized for drug infractions. So yes, you would have been responsible - you would have been fined or sanctioned or suspended or __. I think this is why the rule was changed (parent who signs as trainer must be a competing member) - so that USEF can apply the penalty. Riders are not responsible for drug infractions under USEF rules (I think FEI is different).
I expect itās less about a few thousand dollars in extra fees they might collect and more about the fact that USEF has no disciplinary power over anyone who hasnāt joined as a member. So if the childās horse has (for example) a positive test, they canāt impose penalties in the same way on a non-member parent.

So many people have tried everything to avoid responsibility for positive drug tests in horses that it has come to this. Itās too bad for the honest people, but the honest people always get burned because of the dishonest peopleās ducking and dodging around the rules.
