Looking at the scores, I sort of feel like it’s a case of Christians vs. Lions, with the lions being riders who have competed either at a (now) 5* or at WEG/Olympics. The experience difference is just so overwhelming that the only true competition is among the lions.

I was just going to say, their insta has some good video clips!

Also the write up at EN https://eventingnation.com/pan-am-dressage-live-updates-it-begins/ is hilarious regarding the scores.

“They score a 45.4, not quite good enough to unseat Pedro and California Mail for last place. Try harder next time, Bipolar.”

That sounds like my dressage score race to the bottom!

Colleen Loach just rode another great score for Canada! 26.2!! So impressed with how the Canadians are riding today, we really need this qualification and it looks like the riders came to play.

Who is the judge at M? Whoever it is is very kind to the BNRs so far except for Karl Slezak and right in sync for all the others.

yes, if we, (Canada, and the US) can avoid falling off or some other such a disaster, we should both be able to go to Japan. It is a bit like the Christians and the lions. sort of like Kentucky when the euros come to town. I hope Peru can keep this site, and compete there again. Do they have any competition in Argentina? They have been around for a long time as a team, but have historically not done well.

The comments at the bottom are kind of cracking me up too, so many people upset about the unprofessionalism and that we can’t laugh because we would have those scores if we were in Europe.

I kinda think that’s exactly why we can laugh about it, we know how it is. We ALL know how it is, even those of us that have just done little unrecognized trials know how it is.

Wow Brazilian Marcelo Tosi into 2nd with a 26!

lol the comments werent there earlier so I went back, yep, everyone pissed now. Sigh

wonder what happened to Doug’s entrance and serpentines?

Wow Doug’s scores range from 68.86 from the judge at E (from Brazil) up to 75.68, that’s quite the wide range!! On the entrance the judge at E was a full 2.5 points lower than the judge at M (Jo Young from Canada).

Maybe I am alone, but I found the EN comments rude and elitist. It is one thing for folks to make comments on a chat board like this, but EN purports to be media coverage of the event. These are riders who are doing their best to represent their countries. They are proud to be there, and EN mocking them is just plain inappropriate.

Wondering if he just wasnt square the other judges couldnt see? Although a 5 is harsh. I have heard judges at C before say all they can see is if the horse is straight and looks ready for the test.

I can agree with this but I always take EN as less than a serious media outlet (sorry EN)

It is of course possible that I am expecting more from EN than I should.
