Passel of hogs/boar

Nasty nasty creatures. Carry a ton of zoonotic diseases. They are big leptospirosis carriers here in Hawaii. Unfortunately our ranch has a ton of them. I see them almost daily. The management shoots them when they get too prolific, (or if some fool feeds a baby pig because it’s cute and then it loses it’s fear of humans and grows up to be a danger.)

Most folks around here hunt them with dogs, but after a horse was attacked and killed by hunting dogs a few years back the ranch has cracked down on keeping folks with dogs off the property. (Idiot owner left the dogs running loose after it mauled the horse. They were wearing tracking and ID collars that led authorities back to the owners.)

Give them a wide berth and you should be okay. Hopefully the land owner can get them all. They are considered invasive species and pest in many areas, with no limits on how many you can bag, or when you can hunt them.

Keep in mind… if you wound but don’t kill it, you should then track and kill it.

Wounded swine (domestic, feral, or wild) are dangerous.[/QUOTE]

Exactly. I don’t really want this kind of responsibility! I do my best to avoid them; back when they were contained, I just avoided that area of the property. I thought that by riding on the polo field I was avoiding their territory!

I heard from a 3rd party that a professional tracker/trapper/hunter type guy is involved now.

It’s too late for the turf.

A neighbor borrowed two of our 4’ x 8’ traps.

Next morning he had 11 in one, 7 in the other.

You can’t believe how destructive they can be and how fast they multiply until you see it yourself.
