Pasture Retiring the super hard keeper

Actually I know a lot of people who feed wheat bran on a weekly basis and rice bran only occasionally as a supplement, if ever.
But that’s interesting to see the caloric breakdown.
Thank you

this is an old school use of wheat bran that really just needs to go away LOL It’s a “weekly bran mash” to “keep things moving”, that doesn’t actually do that for horses. And tossing in a new meal on a weekly basis isn’t the healthiest. Yes, sometimes, it does get things moving, but it’s out of distress from having a new food in a large enough amount thrown into the mix.

Rice bran is the typical bran used for weight.

A couple flakes alfalfa a day added to the regular pasture and feed helped my retired tb gain weight.

Thank you all! Now 2 1/2 months later and things are better. Horses have been separated into two separate pastures. Younger horse (21) doing well. Older horse (25) much better mentally, but still needs to gain significant weight back. He is stalled at night and has access to pasture during the day. He has quit eating bran mash (all types) and doesn’t want oil (or water) in his grain. He is eating grain with dry fat supplements and hay (coastal and alfalfa). His teeth have been done every 6 months for the past 3 years, but he still chews like a cow and has grain drop from his mouth. Any suggestions to get the more grain into belly?

To get him to eat the dropped grain, you could feed him in a nosebag. (Not sure if that’s what you meant)
