Right, but she is not getting better pay because she’s getting a studio in Wellington rather than a studio that is $1500 somewhere else.
Well, yes, she is.
That’s like saying a company shouldn’t pay you more in NYC than Dayton, OH if you’re doing the same job.
She is getting the value of significantly expensive housing for free. Her housing at home is not worth the same amount, so her cash pay may be lower if she is getting expensive housing that’s decent (eg not just 5 to a room on the couch as someone pointed out.) that doesn’t mean she’s getting “paid less” because the housing is part of total compensation.
Private housing in season in Wellington is a significant perk.
But this is not housing as in a place to live. She has a place to live. This is travel expenses.
What you are saying is, if they go to a horse show in Wellington for a week and pay for a $200 a night hotel room for her, she’s getting paid more than when they go to a horse show in Aiken for a week and pay $100 dollars a night.
FWIW she’s not “getting to ride”, it’s her job, for which she should be appropriately compensated. It isn’t part of her compensation.
The rate of $800 to $900 per week sounds about in line. But there are MANY variables that can be influential.
Here are some rhetorical questions to consider.
If car is a “maybe” at this point, it might be best to assume one isn’t provided.
How many hours will you work per week? If it is 80 hours, you are making $10 an hour plus housing. If it is 40 hours, you are making $20 an hour plus housing. The hours make a difference.
Will you be paid as an employee or a contractor? Contractors have to pay more in taxes so it makes a difference.
How many other other staff members are on the payroll? Said another way, if someone calls out sick, doesn’t show up for work, or quits, how will that impact your work load?
Can you contact others who have held the job and ask for their input? Keep in mind if other people who held the job before weren’t invited back, their view could be jaded by sour grapes, but it might also raise some good talking points.
