"Pearl of Peace" - double pearl gene Andalusian stallion born with green eyes ...
Keep thinking of that Johnny Cash song, Tennessee Stud,

The Tennessee Stud was long and lean
The color of the sun and his eyes were green
That’s one of my faves–but I think of it as a Doc Watson song!

The Daily Mail = Fox News
It’s the Daily Mail - they don’t do news articles !
Do they both belong to Murdoch?

Do they both belong to Murdoch?
Nope.

Can someone explain in a bit more detail the difference between Perl and Champagne? I like some others also thought that he was champagne I hadnt heard of Perl and thought it was a British term for the same thing. Obviously not.

Aurum’s comment below helps some.
“Pearl mimics Champagne, but is much more difficult to bred on as one copy of it does not show any dilution. This gene does only show dilution in the moment when it is meeting another dilution or is homozygous for Pearl.”

but I want to know how they are different how can I tell by looking that a horse isn’t Champagne but Perl other than to send out a genetic test?

I think it is too early to fairley assess this long yearling and he is in an aquard stage in my opinion.

Thanks Aurum for the link and name of the PRE breeder in Germany I enjoyed looking at their horses on the web. Wish there was an english vershion for the Horse portion of the site.

you can see much more of the Amerang PREs at their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gest%C3%BCt-Schloss-Amerang/167306629981071?fref=ts

Andalusians aren’t rare. I wouldn’t call 185,000 world-wide “rare”. I guess to each his own, but he looks kind of ugly to me…even the color isn’t very attractive (to me)…but again, whatever floats your boat…
Glad you said it first…

I dunno. I think breeding for color and being excited about it, rare or not, is a slippery slope. Even as a yearling, that colt (to me) would make a better gelding with that common head and small eyes, even if they are some odd color. I’ve know Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses with hazel eyes, which are attractive if they are large and have a nice expression encased in an attractive head. My question is would he still be as attractive and a stallion candidate if he were a plain brown wrapper? If not, than he isn’t in a nifty color either. That’s the slippery slope – is it the color that is blinding you to the truth?

Samples like this is what gives us “colored horse” breeders a bad name. If a breeder’s FIRST goal is weird/unique colors and not conformation, there is a problem. Those of us who choose horses of superior quality, conformation and function get “painted” with the same brush as those who pick crap horses with odd markings as “breeding for color”!!! It is annoying!! We want an outstanding foal and are thrilled IF we get unusual color and/or markings. We just sold two young ISH fillies. The solid seal brown/blaze, one stocking brought more than the pretty tobiano because she was an outstanding specimen. In this day and age breeders need to be more conscious of quality.

I have to agree.
Went to look at the photos, thinking there’s be a close up of the eyes.
He’s pig-eyed.

I have an Andalusian who appeared to be piggy eyed at two. He no longer looks that way at 7.

Ran across this updated video of “Pearl of Peace” as a 5yr old now. Thought it would be fun to update this thread. I don’t think he’s turning out to bad, better than I expected

He does look better IF you get past the “inside” hand constant jerk.

Going back to the eyes…
I knew of a black Morgan with blue eyes! (As certain as one can be that he was actually a pure Morgan) At the time this was a disqualification so he couldnt be registered. They called him “Neon” Quite striking!

There are quite a few relatively solid (ie normal white markings) dark horses who have blue eyes. MEMC Morgans has a lot of Splash, and many of theirs have blue eyes.

Stonelake Morgans is another who has a decent amount of Splash in their program, and this colt is one of them

Faircrest Dark Knight is another.

Upsidedown Morgans is another farm that has quite a few blue-eyed Morgans, several of which are more minimally marked.

A little off topic, but can someone explain the reason for the shaved mane and tail.

Your first reaction is only about the hand-jerk? How about the nose-to-chest/baby-rollkur?

He looks like a lovely horse. That canter is something special too. There is another video in the sidebar that shows how stunning his color is:
