Pebble finished concrete for barn aisle

On the flip side, I was persuaded by many to go wide on the aisle, mine is 14’. It seems like a huge waste of space. I wish I had gone with a 12’ aisle and put more square footage into stalls and storage.

I’m currently leaning toward a 10’ aisle, 5 stalls, and the little 4’ “extra space” for sticking hay in or so. I could fit quite a few bales in a 4x10 space and it would be nice to be able to keep 20 bales in there or so, so I don’t have to get it from the hay barn in a n’easter.

I’m going to be taking my current barn and making my two stall portion “outside” stalls (probably at a lower rate) and using the current aisle overhang as a run in (current 4 stall portion is getting taken apart, stall walls reused for new barn and exterior being used as a hay barn.

Current barn (from when we did the “addition”).

And the “new” drafted floor plan.

I’m digging this, Jumper Girl! I can totally see stashing some hay (and maybe grain? Where is your feed room?) in the 4’ storage space.

My feed room is going to be the shed that’s my current tack room, I’ve not decided exactly where that’s going lol (its a 8x10). Right now I’m leaning toward across from the wash stall against the opposite side of the barn. originally I was going to put extra hay in the shed with the feed, but I can put it in there, or even blankets etc. I’m hoping to be able to have the roof of the tack room inside the barn set up so I can store stuff over top.

I’m sorta liking that too…I mean, yeah it reduces my stall totals to 7, but right now I only have one horse that comes in consistently, the rest are all pasture kept. I use good blankets and with the addition of some runs in the fields I don’t think I’ll ever need more then that (and if I do then worst case I build on!).

I have four horses of my own, (retired 22 year old, 16 year old lesson horse that HATES stalls, unbroke 3 year old, and the 7 year old). Our weather is pretty mild through the winter so its rare I have my current barn full other then for the farrier. Of course, I’m probably going to be changing that around since new place will have power (so horses can have fans) so in during the heat, and I’ll probably have to baby the pastures a little so I’ll have horses in more, but I’ll figure out a way to make it work.
