Pee splash and keeping hind legs clean

Yup yup, totally what I was picturing, but in PLASTIC. Googled more…like this thingy:

Just hose off regularly?

As for the show sheen…I haven’t tried it for urine problems, but it kept the back end of my Jersey cow cleaner, and her udder easier to clean, because it kept a lot of manure from sticking to her hair. I milked her by hand, and she did need to be cleaned off of big chunks before I got to the milking part.

When my primary riding horse had high whites and there seemed to be no way to keep him from kneeling in crud when he wanted to nap I would clip the hair short and keep everything well coated in show sheen (or the like). It did a great job of keeping any stains or crud build up from happening.
I would think adding anything to the legs like Vaseline or diaper rash cream would only add to the build up problem.

On the mare peeing side of things I have a - for your amusement - story for you.
My mare has a very thick tail. She lifts it when she manures and urinates, but not near enough so she basically pees right into her tail. Every drop of pee is then dripping from her tail and going wherever she flicks her tail. Yes, it is totally gross, as gross as you would imagine it to be.

THIS disgusting issue is exactly why I bang tails way up to the hocks for winter. I have one mare with a thick, heavy tail, and she cannot possibly lift it out of the way over winter when she’s wearing a blanket. :sigh: That solid frozen pee-sicle tail is just SO much fun, barf.

She does much better with it shorter. By the time spring (and bugs) roll around, she’s grown plenty.
