If he’s as good as he’s shown us, it shouldn’t bother him.
Many of inside horses will probably drop back or at least not be in the main dash for the lead.
As long as he’s not caught up in any train wrecks, he should be ok
I think the train wrecks might happen in front of GR with some of the speedsters closer to the rail.
Surprised that Stellar Wind is longer morning odds than Toast of New York.
I’d still like to see someone other than Gun Runner but it will be tough. Kinda leaning toward Sharp Azteca also based on PP.
[I]I think it is honestly going to be a very interesting race. No denying Gun Runner of all of his wins (he is my favorite since his KY Derby Bid), this race looks to be a bit of a handful.
They haven’t announced jockeys yet which I am pretty surprised by. The race is 3 days away. Equibase doesn’t allow me to look at the entries for this race. If post positions have been drawn; they should announce the riders
If Gun Runner can steer clear of any train wrecks; he is the obvious favorite. But I worry if there is a speedster up front pushing burning fractions. Gun Runner isn’t going to be able to control his pace from Gate 10.
I think Collected and Sharp Azteca could run big on Sunday and they’re in a prime position to do it.
I am interested to see who is driving Stellar Wind around the track this race. She could surprise everyone and she’s been training very well [/I]

Stellar Wind will have Joel Rosario up. IIRC, he rides at Gulfstream so familiar with the track.

Breeders Cup Classic actually.
Finished 2nd to Bayern and in front of California Chrome and Shared Belief.
He was pointed at Dubai World Cup in 2015, got injured, was retired, spent some time at stud (in Qatar of all places) and was put back in training last fall.
Interesting horse and story.

I was just coming to add that bit of trivia. This is a big step up in class for him, but I’ll be hoping for a nice showing. It would be a nice feather in the cap of the breeding program at UK if he manages a respectable finish.
Also: How is Stellar Wind a 30-1 long shot?!?! I wouldn’t expect her to be a favorite, but that’s crazy.

That was a great race! Gun Runner certainly went out on a high note, didn’t he? And Fear the Cowboy ran 4th! Not bad AT ALL for his first G1 against a very deep field.

That was a great race. He certainly has been unstoppable this year. Wish I had that superfecta. Had the exacta which was a no-brainer bet. 
Noted that both Fear the Cowboy and Gunnevera have done well at Gulfstream. Just Sharp Azteca didn’t show up as expected.
Still waiting for the final order. Hope Stellar Wind is good.
But what a nice way to go out for Gun Runner.

That horse keeps grinding better with age… never was a huge fan of him early on, but it’s been nice seeing him stick around.

outstanding ride for Gun Runner; very nice to see him go out on top! hoping West Coast steps up the rest of this year; I’ve always liked watching the older horses as they mature.
Nice win for Gun Runner but, IMO, he pretty much out-classed the field even before the gates opened.
Really impressed with West Coast’s run. He and Gun Runner scampered away from the rest of the field.
Was it my imagination or was Toast of New York’s mouth bloody before the race? Couldn’t tell if it was a tongue tie or blood. Was hoping for a better placing than last for him.
Seems to me like Stellar Wind didn’t show up. I really didn’t think she could win but seemed like she never really got into the race.
Have to admit that I’ve not been following these horses this year, but IMO this was a very satisfying race to watch. Good last race for Gun Runner, but he also had to work at it a little bit for the win. Loved seeing the Tan Suit, especially after reading about it.
Now, NBC really isn’t noted for their wonderful racing coverage, but wasn’t this a really, really new low for them? No post parade except for that dronish view, no real stories about the horses, the riders, the owners or trainers as usual. A big bunch of nothing, really–which spoiled the watching of the race for me.
Good luck in retirement for Gun Runner and Stellar Wind.

I was pretty surprised they also did not replay the race because I really wanted to see the start again.

Don’t know who/how/why it was pulled off but NBC agreed to let TVG cover not only the undercard but the Pegasus (normally NBC/Twin Spires only carry some of the big races like the TC).
Got to watch TVG thought the whole thing and it was lovely as their commentators, for the most part are pleasant to watch and not too insipid and avoid all the social/hat commentary. Yes, they did mention Asmussen’s tan suit and Baffert’s predilection for watching the races from the saddling ring and not the grandstand.

[I]Have to say I think that was one of the best races we’ve seen all year. Fear the Cowboy and Seeking the Soul both bringing in 4th and 5th respectively. They both ran tremendously and I think there is more to see from both of them this year!
West Coast almost looks fake he is so handsome, that chiseled face. He does appear to be a bit of a handful though. He ran great but once he started to gain on Gun Runner at the top of the stretch, Gun Runner turned on the after burners.
I love to watch their different running styles, coming around the far turn you can see everyone really starting to work for it; and Gun Runner looks like a field hunter out there, like a stalking cat, head down low and stretched out. His run from the gate to the first turn was most impressive. That horse covered an small amount of track in an incredibly fast time.
Hope to see lots of Gun Runner babies in years to come. He is very very exciting[/I]
