Pelleted bedding????

DH almost had a heart attack since I was “wasting money”, but we had that gross winter weather where it rains then freezes solid overnight. There was one small little pond right outside a busy gate so I dumped two bags of the pellets and hoped for the best! The next morning everything else was frozen solid and there was a small little fluffy area that had absorbed all of the water and still wasn’t frozen. Loved it!

I wish I used one bag of pellets a week, MistyBlue. I think I use more like 3 in winter and my horses are out 12 hours a day. I bed deep but I think I just own pigs, not horses. I would use the same if not more if they were on shavings, though.

Whoa, your horses are worse than my slob! And at least I have one really neat horse so it’s somewhat balanced.

My sympathies for having multiple stall slobs. It ain’t easy! It sucks when you walk into a stall in the morning to muck and have to just stop and stare like this  and say, “Oh dear Lord I’m gonna kill this horse.”

he’s darned lucky he’s one cute dude.

if you have a mare that pees non stop, should you still wet the pellets or just wait until she pees?

Yes, wet (or rather, dampen) the pellets with water. You don’t want pee to be the wetting agent. You want the pellets just barely damp (ie, just barely damp to the touch, but not enough to make a damp spot on your knees if you kneel on the bedding) so that they fluff up and absorb the urine and hold it in one spot. You then remove the clumped pee spots when you clean the stall.
