Supplementing vitamin A has cured all my foster horses.
Ok just a suggestion from a friend with 20 warmbloods so I respect her ideas.Don’t kill me for this…
She uses a white vinegar diluted with water spray on all her horses with rain rot and was incredibly sucessful. She also uses it on sctratches if its just starting.
Her vet gave her the idea as with all those horses hexacloridine wash gets expensive.
Yes she did pick off the scabs that were ready to drop but never unless them easily came off, never leaving a wound.
I asked my vet and physcian friends and both said white vinegar is more effective than Bleach at killing bacteria. Its also great on mold and so safe to use.
I wish Icould remember the ratio for dilution and we’re talking pure vinegar not the stuff you put on salads.
I also use it to clean drains, again careful with the ratio. A dry drain, a lot of baking soda and then step back and pour in some white vinegar, not to much you want it to stay in the loop part of the drain. The leave it for hours if you can, later run cold water and all the hair and mold is gone.Nice to do in your kitchen ,i do my house as with well water, no clorine so drains can get nasty.
Vinegar is a great rinse for water/feed buckets for all your animals. ANd so cheap!
Forgive me for all the spelling errors, my keyboard is dying .I can’t get it working on my 8 yr. old Mac book.
Just saw the post on IM Banamine. NEVER do that ever again. Apparently you can kill your horse or permanently damage the horse with IM banamine. I didn’t know this but learned from my vet with a recent bad abbess. Its now on the banamine label. Look it up.
Two different vets really got after to me when I said I had always done IM banamine, the young vet looked at me like I was a fool.
I have learned to do IV but vet said you can also fill your syringe ,take off the needle and shoot it in the back of the horses mouth.
We should post this somewhere……
And old vets still do it (give Banamine IM) and it freaks me right out!!! If you have ever seen what can go wrong from it, you will never do it again.
