Per Day Charge for Braiding at Hunter Shows

Wow prices keep going up. Had no idea it was $65 in some markets now.

What if you get yourself to the ring without a trainer, haul your own horse(s), groom them and quite possibly drive an hour each way to avoid hotel expenses? Or any combination of those options? Is it a laughable amount then?

Perhaps not judging the entire world through your prism is on order, since it is not others left looking foolish from that view.

Yeah…guess I should’ve been more clear on my opinion on that. The big barns with the wealthy clients who are paying out the shah-zing week after week and “saving” money by leaving braids in, is the biggest joke. There was someone on this thread who wrote about having two horses on the road and needing to save money. Puhleeeez! So laughable. If you are paying double grooming, stalls, office fees, trainer fees, several divisions with two horses, belly up to the bar and don’t be so cheap to thinkg $110 off your braiding bill is any amount of money at all–it isn’t. If you are a do it yourself-er truly needing to save money but love the horses (That’s me too!), then no judgement cast.

I assume you’re referring to me.

I never said I ‘needed’ to save money. Smart people make smart decisions about saving money where feasible and reasonable.

$100 is $100 whether it’s compared to the cost of the entire show bill or not. This is a key concept of economics that most people fail to understand.

If you could save $100 off your next pair of boots, you’d probably be excited about that $100. Yet you’re saying that MY $100 saving at a horse show is ‘laughable’ because it’s a small portion of the total cost of the show.

That’s faulty thinking. It’s still $100 - whether it’s 25% off a pair of boots or 3.3% off the cost of a $3,000 horse show.

I encourage you to read ‘The Millionaire Next Door’ and ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’.

Really? I was showing 2, one hunter, one jumper. I am also a braider. I used to leave my hunters braids in. Aside from some shavings I had to pick out, they looked just as good. I do always take the tail out. I braid to pay for my shows. I have never paid 3000 for a horse show, ever. I groom for myself, I braid myself, I do my own stalls. If someone needs to save a few bucks, and their horse doesn’t ruin the braids, what is wrong with that? My hunter is very happy braided. If they are so uncomfortable, they wouldn’t fall asleep while being braided. Just because someone shows the A circuit, doesn’t mean they have money to throw away. Don’t assume so much about people

Though you are entitled to your (uneducated) opinion, it is not correct. Plus- you are just plain nasty. From your 2nd post, you seem to resent those who have more than one horse and show on the road.

“I” have 2 horses that show. A pony and my AO/AA horse. I braid myself. My horses impeccably turned out and their manes are just fine. I also keep mine at home, trailer out, groom for myself, get me and my kid to the ring AND have impeccably turned out animals.

If you had experience, you would know that some horses/ponies leave their manes in and don’t both them. And some kids and adults don’t grab onto the braids or rub them so they look fine. Though not every horse can leave their braids in, it is done and the horses look just fine.

Not everyone who shows multiple horses has a million dollar budget. And even if they did- it isn’t any of your damn business why or why not they leave their braids in or how their horses look. Your nasty opinion is irrelevant.

(PS- your attitude sucks)
