Very true, and the manner in which the horse moves is of the utmost importance to buyers of racing stock. “Pretty” is nice but movement is a huge factor and you can’t see that in a photo.
Yes, both Darley and Coolmore have fantastic websites.
Bearing in mind that photos of stallions on big farm breeding pages like Coolmore or Darley are in a way different, at least IMO, league than photos of youngsters that will be at the Keeneland September sale
By the time that name stallion gets to the breeding farm, maybe don’t know what he throws if he’s “young” but you most likely know their on-track performance as well as pedigree. You’ve more than likely seen him race as well. Maybe not a good up-and-back but a clear idea of their on-track style and performance.
The babies, much less “practical” information to work with as their on-track performance other than maybe their 1f breeze times (which seem often to not pan out in real track performance) just isn’t there yet.
Actually, it’s pedigree, conformation, then movement; at least until they are of racing age.
I would disagree. Buyer preferences seems to go in cycles, but the days when a good pedigree was everything are long past. Currently movement (even walking at a yearling sale) and conformation matter much more than what’s on the page.
I have to disagree. They need a pedigree or they don’t get the good price. If you want to point out some no-bred horses that sold well, feel free to do so.
That photo “manipulation” is meager. Go watch a good Dairy Cattle photog!
What’s Your Thesis (2011 by Tiz Wonderful) sold for $200k as a yearling. There is some black type on the dam, but Tiz Wonderful was not a big-money sire. This horse is very correct, big, and good-looking, I think most of his price was due to physical and not as much pedigree. http://apps.keeneland.com/sales/Sep13/pdfs/1341.pdf
I wouldn’t call that horse no-bred. Tiz Wonderful was doing well and no one would kick the dam out of the barn.
OK. Can we “please” stop the floggings?
Roseymare? On THIS thread, I don’t give a bat-outta-my-butt for cattle, dairy or beef!
This is about Thoroughbred racehorses. OK?
Fwiw, I KNOW what is done to 4H, pigs, beef, etc.
