Pinning the hack based on O/F

Serious question, when did that not become desirable? Are they looking for more swing and hock action now?

Thanks for asking that. I was wondering the same thing. What I see pinning at As are still daisy cutters as in- flat kneed toe flickers. Is this regional?

Or a good mover is a good mover over fences and a good mover on tne flat. Judges are attracted to good movers fences or flat.

This!

Yes, but fantastic flat-kneed movers do not always make the cutest, tight kneed hunters. And that is where the difference often lies.

Then very simple. When you see in the prize list that they are judging a particular show, go to a different one. Problem solved.

I think a judge will sometimes throw a bone to a really good jumper they liked and won o/f - if they move well enough to place them in the pack even with slightly better movers out there - but the hack winners tend to be the hack winners - and many times they may not even place o/f. Judges have opinions and preferences just like anyone else- I think most try to b as fair as possible but there are times they have to make decisions and sometimes do consider the division as well- they might want a certain horse that won a lot o/f to not loose out of the division if they don’t get anything on the flat. But again all subjective - all changes and even us talking about is speculation and subjective!

I’ve had a couple times where my carthorse-mover has been thrown a bone in the hack if we’ve done well over fences. His trot is atrocious but his canter and walk look scopey and he has a nice expression, so occasionally if we’re in the running for champ/reserve the judge might place us a bit higher than he deserves objectively. We got 7th once out of 25ish which was ridiculous but I certainly wasn’t going to complain. But anytime we’re placed above 5th in the U/S it’s because there’s nothing lower to give him lol.
