Pinto Horses

After seeing some of the goregous ‘pinto’ warmbloods on another thread … I was wondering how many people ever considered showing their Pintos in the PtHA organization?

Since it is a color breed, they have opened it up to Minatures, Saddlebreds, Half Arabians, Gyspy Varners, Ponies, etc.

We had our first Half Arabian Pinto this year and I can’t wait to see what her owners do with her

I like the APHA, but I’ve always heard how much fun everyone has at the Pinto World … but didn’t know if there was much of a local following …

I would have loved to, but in NC there are no Pinto shows and no local charter/ club

they look likes lots of fun and I have heard great things about them

I wondered … here in Kansas we have a strong APHA club, but the Pinto club isn’t as active… but we’re close enough to Tulsa many go to the World Show or the Color Congress in the fall.

I’ve also wondered, since PtHA is a recognized partner of the NSBA if anyone had thought about taking advantage of their programs as well with their colored sporthorses.

Ditto, we don’t have one in GA either, but if they did I would show in it.

Are you talking about TidyRabbit’s pinto warmbloods? I got to meet her and the Stoney Ponies in person when they came to show at the GIHP and they are amazing!!

I’m still new to this forum, so I’m not sure …I just saw them on another thread and they were gorgeous!!

I always feel like I’m stuck in limbo land … as a breeder, I like the breed shows --but, I would really like to see more of the ‘english/dressage’ movement … so I keep hoping more people will utilize some of the programs out there

But, as was mentioned, it’s hard to do without a strong local club …

I’ve thought about getting my pinto half-arab registered with the PtHA, but the local shows are mostly APHA horses. It’s not really worth it to go be the only horse in in his divison.

They do seem to have a decent mini turnout though.

I just bought a nice pinto ASPCA/AMHR show mare in foal to a modern shetland, and since the mare is suspected to be homozygous tobiano I’ll probably have 2 fancy pinto ponies to show next year.

That might be worth getting pinto papers on the little ones.

Yep, I think the mini’s are thriving … I know one customer who has a mini for her daughter to show in showmanship, etc. while she will be showing her ‘regular’ colt … it makes a great way for the whole family to enjoy the show. Her daughter isn’t intimidated by the size of the mini, and it helps her learn about taking care of horses at a young age …

We had our first half-arabian this year … I’m not sure what her owners are going to do with her, but we do have a sporthorse group that has a strong Arabian presents…

If my horse had better conformation and was registered I would definitely consider it. We think he’s NSH. but know for sure he’s got some Arab in there. We think NSH because he moves like one.

Oh well! Local shows don’t care about that really, and they are much cheaper! LOL

if your horse fits the color requirements and is not a draft or donkey cross they can get registred as a Pinto, having existing papers does not matter

When is it held? Is it in Oklahoma? Do they have jumper classes (not hunters)?

We have sort of kidded around about going sometime, but really I would love to go with the 3 great spotted ones.

they do have hunter over fences, its more stock style than hunter style, jumping and eq over fences and hunter hack, they also have dressage classes

Here is the jumping class description from the rule book

D. Jumpers Class

1. Jumper Course Design
   a. Minimum height for jumps must be eighteen (18)
   inches and maximum height twenty-eight (28) inches
   for first jumping round.
   b. Courses should be attractive, varied, and appropriate
   to their setting.
   c. Jumps could include brush, triple bar, water, and
   similar jumps.
   d. Brush jump must have a visible bar on top or beyond.
   e. An in-and-out is to be considered and scored as two
   jumps.
2. Ties
   a. Jump-offs are to occur for any/all ties through 6th
   place.
   b. The jump-offs are to be over the original course.
   170 2012 PtHA Rule Book
   CLASSES
   c. Jump heights will be increased not less than three (3)
   inches and no more than six (6) inches in height for
   each jump-off round.
   d. The Pinto with the fewest faults will be declared the
   winner.
   e. Number of jumps to be raised is at the discretion of the
   judge.
   f. When jump height reaches 34”, exhibitors will be
   timed on the course and those times will be used to
   determine the placings if there are ties in the number
   of faults.

The PtHA also has a Color Breed Congress in the fall that is a lot of fun and gaining a lot of support …

And, PtHA horses can show at the NSBA World Show … if they are liscensed – can’t remember if the stallion they are sired by has to be enrolled, or if there is a grandfather clause … but here is a link to the NSBA Over Fences …

Lol since the fences don’t exceed 34" I could actually compete against you! I can just imagine my short fat paint standing next to Aeros now! :lol:

We’d have to handicap you somehow… Like you’d have to wear a blindfold and I get 5 seconds subtracted from my time… I think that would be fair

Both of the trainers I work with train/show Arabians predominantly; I think PtHA is a great crossover for them. Lots of lovely pinto half-Arabs!

I’m a bit annoyed at PtHA for creating an entirely new category called “Utility” that applies only to Gypsy and Vanner horses. Really? Suck up much? And their rules STILL say no draft blood… can’t imagine where those chunky little horses got their chunk. I was so excited to see the Utility category as a way to go have a fun show with my pinto draft crosses… would it have killed them to make Utility open to any thick hairy useful hony LOL?

As much as I shake my head over that, I still plan on getting my Paints registered Pinto, and offer a complementary Pinto registration to anyone who purchases one of my Paints.

I don’t know much about the Pinto Association since it is pretty much nonexistent in GA, but I agree that’s an absurd rule! No draft crosses, but GVs are allowed? :rolleyes:

LOL. I think there would be some very fast horses in a class that height. Let’s go next year! I’ll meet you there! Too bad it’s in June though when it’s already so hot. But… I’ve always wanted to go, so maybe we’ll do it!
