Please Give Me Reasons Why I Shouldn't Buy Tucci Custom Tall Boots...

I am not a professional rider; I show about 5 times a year (other than schooling shows); and I really, really love the way the Tucci boots look. I have no real “need” for them, but do want a pair of “fit like a glove” beautiful boots that will last. I do have a hard time w/off the rack boots because I have a size 10 foot with a 34 cm calf and am 5’9 (chicken calf on a big foot). I have off the rack De Niro’s for everyday use but would like to invest in a nice pair of show only boots. Opinions?

Sorry, can’t help ya. I love my custom but not custom for me Tuccis. They fit amazingly and the leather quality is unmatched. I can only imagine how nice a pair of brand new custom ones would be.

The only reason not to buy them is the price! Otherwise, go for it!

Because you can get boots that are just as nice for nowhere near the cost.

Also, everyone I know who has Tuccis has had issues with the zippers breaking VERY early on in the boots’ lives.

Yeah, I would be HARD pressed to spend that kind of money on a boot. Shoot, many of my horses cost less than that. but if you really love them, and money is not an issue, go for it.

Custom boots aren’t just for pros or for showing. I wear my custom Parlanti’s every day for schooling and also for showing (which was many shows some years and none other years). I love the way they fit and once I started wearing them I could not go back to my paddocks and half chaps. They are still going strong and looking well after five years as my exclusive riding boots. They were worth every penny (to me).
Who cares whether you ‘should’ get something, if you love them and can afford them, why not?!

I’ve also heard people complaining that while the Tucci’s are beautiful and soft, they wear through very fast. Personally I just cannot justify the price when there are other customs out there for less $$$$

I love my custom Sergio Grasso’s

PS, I know nothing about Tucci’s specifically, my comment was about custom boots in general. My parlanti’s weren’t the softest out of the box, they were very painful and tough to break in. They are also fully lined. They were definitely designed for longevity not suppleness and that’s why they were worth the money.

I also have custom Der Dau’s. They are much flimsier than the Parlanti’s and are not even half as good of boots for almost the same money. Plus they never fit right. I sadly never wear them, but might start just to increase the life of the Parlanti’s. I regret buying the Der Dau’s, but never for one moment have regretted or even thought about the cost of the Parlanti’s I like them that much and have got that much wear out of them.

So my long winded post is to say that some expensive boots may be a purchase you regret, others may not.

That would do it for me. I’ve been known to spend some $$$ on something I didn’t really need, and equal quality could be had for less… but it made me happy so I didn’t care. However I try to make those moments top quality moments as well.

On the other hand if you would like to be enabled, I’m sure we can work that out as well!

Hey, if you can afford it. Go ahead and enjoy nice custom boots!

I got lucky and found my customs (that fit like a glove) at a consignment store. The person who special ordered them, didn’t want them anymore. So, I ended up with them. And I will NEVER again buy cheaper boots. They look great, I can feel my horse, and I love the soft quality leather!

& Newsflash, zippers break on all boots. Cheap or expensive. It all depends on how much pressure/force is on them at any given time and if you clean them properly (I use dust-off to get all of the grime in between that can cause zippers to get angry.)

Go into your cupboards and count just how many pairs of riding boots you already own.

I was shocked, last time I did that.

I don’t know that it is a newsflash since everyone I know understands there are only 2 types of zippers: the ones that broke and the ones that are going to break.

However the “when” matters to me, and if there was some evidence that some were less reliable than others, yeah, I’d factor that in. But I’m funny like that.

I wear my custom Tucci boots pretty much every day and while I am good about keeping up with their care, I don’t baby them - I wear them to groom/bathe etc as well as to ride. Mine are a year old now and are still in perfect condition.

I will say that my custom Der Daus are probably a tad more durable and will likely last a bit longer. But they aren’t as pretty.

Not a newsflash, but all the people I know (with the exception of Lucassb) had their zippers break on or before the third ride in the boots. That would do it for me.

I love my custom boots and I take good care of them, but I would not buy Tuccis. My personal preference. OP asked for reasons. That’s all.

I love my custom Konigs, I have the excellent model they fit amazing and are super soft.
Not a Tucci fan

All the input is good–but what is another pair of customs that look as sleek and classic and cost less. I wouldnt say money is no object, but the two nice things I’d like to invest in are a great pair of boots and a great coat.

I do think I need customs because my big foot skinny leg… I only ride 3x a week so am not so worried about waering through them fast, and am looking at the zipper that goes to the side, which I understand is supposed to help with breakage. I also like the look (and price) of La Mudial’s but the reviews seem really mixed (love or hate).

Only two pair (plus half chaps and paddock boots). So maybe I do “need” them

You might want to consider Randy Kroop in Maryland. She has been making boots for years, and she has an excellent reputation. She doesn’t like zippers, but she’ll work with you to solve fit problems. If you don’t want to use someone on the east coast, consider Dehner in Nebraska. I have a pair from 1978 that I am still wearing.

I am suggesting these makers because you used the word “classic,” and that’s what you’re going to get from them–no bling or lizard trim. I am not sure how their prices compare to Tucci’s, but I have a feeling they are both more reasonable.
