Please Give Me Reasons Why I Shouldn't Buy Tucci Custom Tall Boots...
I do think I need customs because my big foot skinny leg… I only ride 3x a week so am not so worried about waering through them fast, and am looking at the zipper that goes to the side, which I understand is supposed to help with breakage. I also like the look (and price) of La Mudial’s but the reviews seem really mixed (love or hate).
My parlanti’s have the curved zipper and it is awesome. My DerDau’s have the zipper straight down the back and that is why I don’t wear them. I don’t know how people ride with them, it feels like a cheese grater on the back of my heel. My zippers have also never shown any signs of breaking after many years of full time use (knock on wood).

I have very classic, beautiful boots from La Mundial. They came the day that was originally estimated and I love them - I wear them all the time. Full customs from them are $685.

Did you try the Tucci off the rack boots? They are really beautiful, not sure if they make a size that works for you. I’ve got La Mundials also, and love them. If money were no object I would have seriously considered Tuccis as I think the leather quality is better than that of La Mundial. The only thing I’m not in love with is the sole- it seems a bit bulky to me. I like the sole to be very thin, so for me the La Mundials are perfect.

I have had Tuccis for a year, they are fine. I ride in them every day and (gasp!) don’t clean them more than once a week, but the leather is still in nice shape. Haven’t had any problems with the actual zipper breaking, as I’m relatively careful with them, but the zipper pull came off of both boots about a month ago. Currently held together with bobby pins as zippers… oops.
At Devon I ordered another pair, as I was outgrowing my current ones… just came here and they couldn’t fit worse - though I blame the tack shop more than Tucci, the company isn’t being too great about replacing them.
IMO the best zippers out there are the Der Dau dream boots. I was just at their shop in Brooklyn and was thoroughly impressed. They’re really heavy duty, and the boots have lots of other nice features too. However, they were significantly more than my Tuccis, so you definitely pay for that.

You might also do a forum search on Casa de Botas

Look in your area for who’s measuring/ordering

Thanks for all of the advice–I may have to give the La Mundial’s w/side zip a try. I am sure my DH will appreciate the cost saving

DON’T BUY TUCCI

After reading many positive reviews, I decided to go with Franco Tucci boots. So, I contacted a representative in the U.S. near where I live, I travelled 3 hours one way to be measured for custom riding boots by a lady named Dylan. From that point, it took her 2 weeks to give my order to Greg, who is the rep for the Southeast. After I personally contacted Italy to find out the status of my order, they did not have it so they gave Greg’s number to me and I had to contact him, whom I had never spoken to at this point. I gave him my payment information and they charged me for the total cost of the boots in Italy as my down payment. So, I’m now over 2 weeks into this and my order was not submitted to Tucci. Next, Martina at Tucci was kind and helpful when I could get in touch with her. From the time I took my measurements to the time that I received my “CUSTOM” boots was 3 months. Well, after receiving my custom Anna boots with crystals on the whip area, they did not fit properly. The foot area was very large. I rode in them a few times, but the foot was so wide and fit like a man’s shoe on my foot. So, I remeasured myself and sent the boots back to them via FedEx AFTER a couple of weeks run around to get an email from Tucci to direct me and give me a shipping label. I sent my boots back at the end of July, and now it is August 14th, and my boots are sitting at the Fed Ex office in Susegana for 2 SOLID WEEKS. I have been calling and emailing Tucci with zero response. I’ve emailed asking if they have received my boots, but ZERO RESPONSE. If I could rate this company and boot zero stars, I would. It is highly disappointing how disrespectful the American reps are and how lackluster they are by not answering their phones or helping you. I found it absolutely hilarious when the U.S. rep contacted me via text asking for the remainder of the boot payment when they did NOTHING to help my order. I had to manage everything myself and speak to Martina in Italy on my dime and my time, not to mention, my boot order was not correct, not fit properly. This whole experience is highly disappointing. I wish Franco Tucci could know how people are not caring for his product or brand. I understand the importance of quality and customer service, and sadly, this company does not offer either. I will be contacting my credit card company for a full refund for boots that are now residing in a Fed Ex office in Susegana, Italy. Maybe they can nail them to the wall as a memento.

I bought the “off the shelf” Tucci boots and they fit great. I wear them for shows and lessons. I do not clean them “great”. I did have an issue, at first, with the zippers not staying up…which Tuccu replaced the tab at the top and that solved the problem.
I’m just not a fan of the overall look of zippers and the elastic part in the back. My next boots (in years, I hope!) will be the plain ole custom pull on boots.

Sidebar, but I love my custom Dehner’s which have worn incredibly well FOREVER with the occasional (like every 5 year) zipper replacement.
