Please help with attire, the single most intimidating part of foxhunting

Yay! I’m so glad you had fun. And you look perfect.

The free cubbing plus 6 cap deal is indeed a good way to start. I’m not sure where you are exactly but if you are close to other hunts you can also cap around a bit and see if there are other clubs that you might prefer to join on a more permenant basis. Each one has its own flavor and atmosphere. Usually there is a 3 cap limit per guest.

You both looked fantastic! Glad you had fun.

I’m in my third season of hunting and still have to ask questions about attire when we visit other hunts. My hunt is fantastic and laid back, they could care less about attire as long as it is clean and safe. Stock ties are optional as are coats, and we very very rarely dress formal at home. Granted we are a very small hunt. I find myself in the same boat as you when I visit other hunts, where I am much more concerned about what I look like than they are.

I have found that it is difficult to be invited into a hunt, at least in my area, without knowing someone that also hunts and can give a good reference. But once you’re in then the sky is the limit! I’ve been blessed to be able to visit many hunts in our area.

Double post…

Y’all look great! Thanks for posting the photo!

I love the way your horse is looking at the camera (or at the dark bay creeping up on him … )

You both looked great, no one would know that you’re not out there every week. If you decide to continue you can find lots of attire used on line, either on eBay or on Facebook pages like foxhunters on facebook.

We had some juniors out over the christmas break. One girl, 13 years old, who was hunting for the very first time, had on brown paddock boots with brown half chaps, khaki pants. She had a black pea coat over a tan sweater. She looked great and really looked the part. Everybody in the hunt was absolutely great to her and not a single snide comment was made.

That’s how you get new juniors into the hunt. The kids that had hunted in previous years started out like her and have accumulated all the “right” attire over time.
