What’s the matter with Mary Jane? She doesn’t know when she’ll ride again.

Just saw Windurra was having a CT on April 26th. Now I am really frustrated. Well, maybe we will be ready for a WT dressage test. Sigh.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, me too, saw that and poops…same weekend as Rolex…just bought plane tickets. Darn.

1st world problem, Retread :).

Well, this approaching ice/snow storm settles it… I definitely feel confident in not sending in my Morven entry! It’s too bad Redland isn’t running this year, having an option between Morven and Fair Hill (that isn’t CDCTA or the s***show that is Loch Moy unrecognized) would really help.

Yes there is very little in April but honestly this is a nightmare month for organizers, it is so hard to run the gauntlet of thawing ground, rain, etc. Plantation is mid April - is that a possibility? Actually I think the entire spring is going to be a nightmare for organizers until May and it dries out.

As the snow/ice accumulation prediction increases for tomorrow, my sense of humor has run out for the evening and I’m ready to throw a five year old tantrum complete with foot stomping and pouting.

The weathermen could be wrong though, right? Instead of 12+ inches of snow and ice tomorrow, it COULD be 60 degrees and sunny again, right?

I have been trying to ride my green OTTB that I have only had since the end of Nov. We have an arena(outdoor) that I can ride in, but she is still learning leg aids and steering and getting back in some shape, so it makes it not so much fun. The ground has been so wet that you could barely venture off the driveway without being in deep sucking mud. It was beautiful here today(Sunday) in Va and my friend and I actually did a little trail ride at the walk( still some muddy spots). Now we are having this stupid storm moving in and I know that it will be wet and soggy again. No plans for any actual events, other than some field trips off the farm to trail ride at area state parks, but I want to get her going better. Am planning on having the trainer at the farm across the street work with her some, but don’t feel that it is worth it until she can have some consistancy.

Full Moon has an unrecognized April 6-- that’s my goal with the Training horse.

I’m in PA, and things are FINALLY starting to look up. It’s going to be nearly 50 by Friday, and it’s going to hover around that temp for a good while. None of this “60 and sunny? Tomorrow -15 with snow!” anymore. We were predicting at least a foot of snow Sunday into Monday, but the storm went south and we got maybe a coating yesterday morning. I’m not sure I could take another foot of snow.

I didn’t believe the Farmers Almanac until this winter. It said “February will be the hardest month” basically, and I said oh yeah whatever. Well February has been the roughest month. It says that because winter has been so difficult, April and May will be drier and warmer than usual (no springtime mud mania.) There is hope everyone, hang in there!!

PLEASE let this be true for April and May, though adding at least part of March would be nice as well. I don’t mind dry weather as long as it doesn’t turn into a drought that will affect the hay crop. I am DONE with winter.

“MARCH 2014: temperature 38° (2° below avg.); precipitation 3” (avg.); Mar 1-9: Flurries, cold; Mar 10-15: A few showers, mild; Mar 16-21: Rain, then sunny, cold; Mar 22-25: Snow showers, then sunny, cold; Mar 26-31: Rain, then sunny, mild."

It also says summer will be hotter and rainier than usual.

I’m over it, as I sit looking out my window with another 6-10 inches falling. My prelim horse was injured in August and we got permission to start walking in December and to start trotting a couple of weeks ago. Had I been aiming for Southern Pines like I usually would be, I’m not sure it would be happening.

I’ve been able to pretty consistently keep him going 3-4 days a week, which is all the vet wants me to do right now.

I have a just-turned-4-year-old that I got in November to keep me busy and I’ve also been able to ride him pretty consistently 3-4 days a week, which is all he needs.

In years past, I’ve been pretty gung ho about about riding in any kind of weather as long as the ring isn’t frozen, but we’ve had way too many days where it never thaws and I don’t even have a chance. There’s also some days where it’s frozen or freezing when I get home from work at 5:30 and that’s frustrating.

What I really hate is that the fields we have to hack in are too wet and our paddocks are turning to absolute mud because of the arrangement we need to have with my recovering horse. I worry about him running everyday when I put him out, so we’ve had to give him Ace to keep him quiet and walking in a sectioned-off paddock. It’s just a terrible time for him to be going out but he’ll kick the barn down if he’s on anymore stall rest.

Because the fields are so wet, I’ve been stuck in the ring with the 4-year-old and he’s not able to get out and learn to use himself on the hills and build strength from behind.

I went to Florida for a week for work after our last snow storm and I came back to weather in the 60s. Now it’s plummeted again and I just can’t take it anymore! OK, rant over!

Heading for TX tomorrow after Midnight and of course it’s like Minus 5 there now with 3 inches of ice …BUT it WAS 80 there 2 days ago…I am cursed!!!

I too read the Farmers Almanac in the fall "Frigid winter, way below normal, and lots and lots of precipitation). Basically the winter from hell, and yeah, they were right. They are always right!

Well, on the bright side here it doesn’t look like we are going to get more than a couple of inches of snow, instead of the foot they were calling for. And they’ve modified tonight’s low from -4 to 2. (I never thought I would be pleased about a low of 2!).

Yesterday, I took Stella for a walk about 9am. It was BEAUTIFUL, and I thought “Well, at least I can take advantage of this beautiful day and go for a hack.”

But since I am in packing mode, I spent a few hours cleaning and prepping to pack. Finally, after some lunch, I pulled on my britches and went to ride.

And the temp had plummeted, the clouds had rolled in, and it had started to rain. Toby got stuffed with cookies and tucked into his dry stall. Then I went to the Safeway, bought ingredients for mulled wine, and went home to drink, watch a movie, and pack.

Now, I’m snowed in and ate cake for breakfast.

I’m ready for a sunburn.

We usually ride until it’s 0 degrees (F) - which means that this winter, we’ve had 47 days off (factoring windchills and the odd blizzard). So how do I cope? I stay home by the fire and I bake. Result? Fire-breathing baby dragons and a rider who almost can’t fit into her breeches one the odd day when it’s a balmy 4 degrees and we can ride…
But reading this thread has actually helped! Especially the part about the Farmer’s Almanac & warm Spring and the one about eating cake for breakfast. Actually I might just go and do that now. I mean I already need to buy new breeches anyway… :stuck_out_tongue:

My bike is sitting on the trainer in my living room, giving me dirty looks and calling me fatty. Screw you, bike. The cake was good (and vegan. That MUST count for something!).

Like everyone else, I have had it. Had It. We are lucky to have an indoor so technically there has been consistent work, but since I haven’t so much as gone on a walk hack outside since 2013 those early season events are looking rather dicey. Baby horse has become SO civilized in the indoor, but we need time to imprint this behavior out in the wild.

So…today…fluffy light snow…perfect for a snow hack…but I am stuck in the city…and leaving tomorrow morning. How ironic that the ONE snow I think we could actually ride in is the one I will be gone for. However, if I typed the name of the place I am going I am pretty sure that all of you local to me would hunt me down and kill me so…
