Polyrope vs polytape

Another HG fan, BUT I somewhat regret getting the bipolar. The connections all cost more (really the tape is the cheap part) and I have had continuous issues with it zapping at any of the tensioners that use metal (there is a big box corner tensioner that is all plastic and is not an issue, but requires a big post). There is a way to do the connections where expose more wire on the end and wrap that and then there is no arcing, but it’s a pita.

I was hooked on the bipolar idea when I boarded before and the fence lost electricity because it was so dry underground they couldn’t get a good ground. With that being such a recent thing in my mind, I thought the BP would be the way to go. It does work and it packs a big punch.

I also live in an insanely windy area. It’s the worst part of our weather here. No issue with the HG. I did brace the corners.

I have had a weanling get separated from mom and go through the fence and she was fine.

I assume all the regular HG users are not having arc issues?

Last thought. My favorite fencing is my coated wire Kencove (Ram, Centaur, etc. all make it too). I have it with the HG for visibility, but like it with a flex fence top rail too. This is all back-of-the-pasture area, so I used t-posts to save some money.

It’s been the least maintenance, followed by the no-climb, HG and last wood board.

I like the idea of the coated wire with the HG. I had no idea the bipolar was more expensive/had those issues. Thats good to take into consideration since that was what I was going to go with just because it seemed like a better option. I have a strand of electric up now and I’ve never had an issue with it not working so I’d probably be fine with the regular kind. Love your black posts! Looks real nice

I have only had arc issues when a slug or big spider touches the T-post and the fence at the same time. It is amazing how loudly they snap-crackle-and-pop!

I have never used any HG insulators, as I could never justify the price difference. I just use Dare insulators, or whatever brand my local farm supply carries. Wood end posts and corners, T-posts for line posts, spaced about 10’. I do have a few places I have had to make H-braces with T-posts, and they work just fine, but are kinda ugly and awkward.

I never thought of that!! I feel like an idiot lol what a simple brilliant idea to save a little money

Have had Horse Guard polytape for ten years!! Awesome ! The times I have had to work on it is when something has hit it and stretched it at night. No injuries to horses ever.
