I’m a BELIEVER!!! POP ROCKS ROCK!!!

Tried the free trial 20 sachets offer (arrived in 5 business days as I opted to do Express Delivery=$30)…In 3 days Rasta was better, 4th day the same, so next morning I ordered the remaining 80 packets - THIS order, even with express shipping took a bit longer but oh-so-worth it!!! Horsie is NOT spooky, I’m able to canter again without fear of another broken neck

This may have been answered in another thread (there are so many threads regarding this topic!)…

My ponies get their food wet…can I still sprinkle the pop rocks on that? Or should it be dry? I understand they are cellulose coated so they survive passage thru the stomach… Was wondering if getting them wet in the grain would affect them…

All I know is that I take omeprazole when my ulcer acts up and I feel better the next day!

It depends on how long it takes for them to eat the grain, as the granules will start to degrade as soon as they get wet.

This works for me: less than a cup of concentrate, a tablespoon or so of oil (to give the granules something to stick to), sprinkle in the granules. I do that when I first arrive at the barn, she eats this while I get out her tack or do other chores.

Then grain as I get ready to leave for the evening. But then she’s stalled so it’s quick to do.

I wanted to update on my replacement order. The first one never came and after 3 months (and this thread) I contacted them. They responded right away and I got the replacement package in about a week. So, I think they have upped their service.

I will say though that they sent the package in a plain white plastic package. Was a bit suspect, but the individual packets are the same and have instructions. Maybe they skimped on the packaging to save on the extra shipping costs for sending a replacement order

For those interested in the shipping timeline… I live in NJ and ordered 100 sachets last Weds, Sept 28 via the expedited shipping and received them today (Weds, Oct 5). The sachets are in a flat box and the envelope was padded.

It’s Pop Rock time

Alright, I’m in. I ordered.

My instincts told me from DAY ONE that this mare of mine (spooky, witchy, grunts and growls under saddle, ate a Uncle Jimmy Hangin Ball and tried to chew through her stall wall, runs from the saddle that fits…quits work halfway thru…)has ulcers. I mentioned it to former BO. She did not think so, given no colic history and otherwise a happy eater.

She’s on Magrestore. Her heat issues calmed on that but still quit on me the other day during a ride and acting like before.

Has not been scoped since the cost of the scoping would be so very high compared to just trying the damn rocks. She has bite marks (ruffled hair) every single day on her belly sides. Every day.

Let us pray to the God of Blue Rocks.

I admit I’m being lazy. Can someone post a link to the site - I’ve got to place an order and don’t feel like using the search function.

I’ve got a horse on doxy and would like to have the stuff on hand.

Thanks.

You know, if these companies got smart they would realize that the cheapest marketing is RIGHT HERE.

I’ve used many things that I read about here, and they all pretty much worked.

Would like to add that I really like the 20 pack trial without having to buy a whole bunch.

Thank you for indulging my laziness.

I ordered Oct 19 and have yet to receive. E-mail confirmation that it had shipped Oct 21 and then another on Nov 4. Nothing further.

I am in Canada…hope it manages to get to me.

Update: After a month of 3 sachets per day, I see zero change. There has been no change to him whatsoever. On to the next experiment

Wizard’s a picky eater, and he had no issues eating the granules. He does tend to flip his feed tub over, so I put a blob of molasses on top of his feed and emptied the packets directly into the molasses. This meant that 1) he ate them first and that 2) they did not scatter all over the place.

My order took 14 days - I timed it. Cash has a pretty clear-cut case of ulcers, although he has not been scoped for them. OTTB, came off in January, had his layup, started back to work in August. Spooky, sore back, was chiropracted, started on generic omeprazole from the vet which helped a LOT, but he wanted me to try the enteric coated, so just oredered the 20 day trial. Will reorder when I am at about 10 days if I can get the darned things into him (see my other thread).

The molasses blob is the way I feed them to my horse, too. He can somehow pick them out of his whole 1 cup of feed he gets twice a day.

Sorry they didn’t work for your horse. They’ve been a godsend for mine.

Given that we can’t see ulcers, determining whether or not a remedy is working may take some time and intuition.

But let me tell you that I got a new horse that was a very picky eater. Took all day to eat. Owner and prior BO told me so.

I started him on pop rocks and within a day or two he had a healthy appetite.

I feed all my horses watered feed, and spinkle the pop rocks on top for him so he eats them right away.

Just FYI–On my vet’s suggestion, I took my guy to an acupuncturist for another issue (hocks or SI??). The acupuncturist is interested in traditional Chinese medicine, including the use of herbs, but she’s also a down-to-earth scientifically trained vet (interesting combination). Her interest in acupuncture and Chinese medicine arose from her own successful experience with chronic pain from a bad fall off a horse. She diagnosed issues in my horse’s digestive system (in addition to confirming hocks and suggesting digital xrays and injecting, no less) and put my guy on an herbal supplement called, as one might expect, “Stomach Happy”.

Now, I’m a hard-core scientist myself; my PhD is in physical chemistry, where I studied IR spectra of small molecules–I want my models simple and exact, no black-box multi-variable biological systems for me, nosiree Bob. My career has since led me into mathematics where there are even more exact answers (chaos theory makes me crazy). I’m a pretty scientific, black and white person.

BUT. When it comes to my horses, I want results. Having had a positive experience with cranial-sacral therapy–which is even more vodoo in my book than Chinese herbs–followed by a recommendation by my vet, who is, well, a vet, and a very down-to-earth one at that, but who had seen remarkable results in her sister’s jumpers with acupuncture–I was willing to give it a try.

So far, so good. The treatment w/ the Stomach Happy will be a month, almost finished now, and then he may need a course of it perhaps twice a year. But he has so far been completely symptom-free (I admit I haven’t challenged him in the ulcer department), and he eats it readily mixed in his feed (oil helps it stick better than water).

I also had good results with the pop rocks, and it was difficult to stop using them when I started on the herb supplement, because I understand how they work. I’m a believer in the pop rocks. I just mention this as an alternative for anyone who has problems with the pop rocks treatment, if you can find a good vet who also does acupuncture and uses herbs.

So what’s in the “Stomach Happy”? Lots of herbals have fairly potent pharmaceutical actions. And I’ve got to say the names are very much cooler than those of most drugs!

You know, I’m a dolt and forgot to ask, and it isn’t listed on the jar. I have a follow-up appt soon and will find out. There’s definitely something licorice-like in it …

I was a little gob-smacked by the whole experience; like the CS therapist, she was able to tell so many things about my horse that were valid, with next to no input from me and having never met either of us before. Interesting stuff.

Licorice root, probably. High on the list of herbal “stomach remedies”. Make sure it’s de-glycerrhized (I know I spelled that wrong!) if it’s a competing horse, as I believe the raw, unadulterated stuff can test.

Beware the cold readings. I have had kinesiologists try that on me. Very insidious. And comical.

Well. It probably WOULD be better, generally, if I tried to read labels with my glasses on.

Contents of “Stomach Happy”:

Peony - Bai Shao Yao
Atractylodes - Cang Zhu
Citrus - Chen Pi
Angelica - Dang Gui
Trichosanthes - Gua Lou
Licorice - Gan Cao
Taraxacum - Pu Gong Ying
Aurantium - Zhi Shi
Bupleurum - Cai Hu

Good call about the competition, though it’s been eons since I did any competing. I really don’t pay attention to drug rules; will probably be disbarred from all organizations should I ever have one of my horses tested. But I just don’t see us doing any recognized (or otherwise) competing any more. Fat old lady with horses in the backyard syndrome, you know …
