Post Coffin Joint Injections

Had it done about six times, both front joints. No big deal. Put her in pasture. Keep a close eye on her. The only issue is if there’s heat or swelling, it’s an emergency call.

We sedate the horse if needed. We spray alushield over top to close off the needle hole from the outside world after done. We do not wrap and horses are fine to be turned out. Light work for the day or two after then back to normal work.

Every vet/vet practice will have their own opinions on the after care.

We had a horse who got coffin joint injections every 6-18 months for years. The sites were wrapped for a few hours. Then, as long as it wasn’t muddy, he went out that night. The next day or two were light riding, then back to full work.after he stopped jumping, when he was in his teens, he didn’t need the injections anymore.

Hows your filly doing today??

She had the injections done on Friday. When the vet inserted the needle in the right front lots of thin liquid shot out, not so much on the left. She was stall rested for 2 days, then hand walked for another 2 days. I think the trainer is going to put her on the longe today.

Jingles & AO ~ for a good lunge today !
