I’m sorry to hear that.
So sorry. Breeding is tough. There are lots of happy stories, but so many sad stories.
Tough to have to deal with but, honestly, it’s a miracle she carried so long undetected, without any prenatal care and without proper diet for developing a healthy fetus.
Its best, nature pulled the trigger on an unviable fetus to protect the life/health of the mare, saved you further heartbreak and vet bills. Hopefully her system will clean itself out with help from the vets and appropriate meds and you can move on. She’s a nice mare, always liked that type.
I’m sorry for you! What a nightmare.
On the other hand, it might be for the better as a foal wasn’t in your initial plan.
Jingles for your mare’s quick recovery.
Oh, I’m so sorry. No matter what your original goals for the mare were, it must have been very exciting to think about a foal.
I hope she’s back from the vet very soon with no lasting effects.
I agree that it might have been for the best, but that doesn’t make it easier. Jingles for your mare and hugs for you.
Very sorry…In this situation, you don’t WANT a foal, but then you start dreaming…
A friend had a horse foal that was full term with regular vet care, but…it was deformed, and she had to sit hours with it and wait for the vet to come put him down. (He couldn’t nurse or drink.)
Very sorry for you and Ivy.
Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone. The flush went well and it seems that she did NOT retain any portion of the placenta. More likely, some wild animal carried it off as she is pasture boarded. The vet seemed pleased with how everything looked/felt but she’s staying at the clinic overnight for observation and oxytocin to make sure absolutely everything has gotten pushed out.
I’m so relieved and really looking forward to getting her into training! She’s gonna be a good little mare for me to enjoy, I’m sure of it, and that’s really what I wanted.
You fought the good fight, sorry it didn’t work out. Jingling for a quick recovery. She is lucky to have you.
So sorry to hear this.
So sorry to hear this. You two have been through so much together and to lose the foal is heartbreaking. I am glad she is doing well, though. My thoughts are with you.
