I saw a similar TV programme, one where a Californian polo player was asked to fake being a cowboy and, after a period of some weeks, compete in some rodeo skills against real ranch hands. The Polo player and his cowboy mentor were of similar age and, despite entirely different life experience, they apparently grew to be friends. The polo player was first taken to a store to purchase all the clothes he would need for his stay on a ranch, including a hat. “A cowboy never takes his hat off” explained his cowboy mentor. At the end of the programme the young man headed back home to California, back again in his previous California clothing - but the cowboy hat was still firmly on his head even as he drove off.
I remain curious about the longer term impact of the show on the two young men.
