Pro Elite versus Triple Crown Senior

I noticed that the TC senior was better too. Until I picked up my last order a week ago. Back to bricks. I am going to wait until I get my next load and see if it is better. That is seriously my on,y issue with TC.

Another follow up post… who’s still using it? How are your horses doing on it?

I used PE Sr for a while and didn’t have any problems with it. I changed back to TC Sr because I’m very disenchanted with Cargill and how they are not keeping promises of not changing feeds they take over.

The TC Sr I get now is much more crumbly than the PE Sr ever was. I don’t know how that will hold for the Winter, but I can say the PE Sr I was using last Winter was not easy to break up a lot of the time. I used TC Sr over the Winter for a few Winters, several years ago, and never had the brick issue many complain about. That could be mill-specific and related to the order in which ingredients are combined, maybe?

TC now has additional ButiPearl which is a really good gut health product. It also has more copper and zinc which is important in any area with high iron.

As for the difference in NSC, if that really concerns you, just feed a bit less of the PE, and if you have any leftover when you get TC again, must toss on 1/2-1lb or so with the TC until it’s gone

Found this thread after a morning looking for alternatives to TC Sr. due to the brick issue. I just purchased half a month worth of TCS so I can switch slowly to another feed but it has to be complete and I don’t see Pro Elite Sr. listing it as complete on their site.

Triple Crown Sr is 17% fiber.
ProElite Sr is 18% fiber.

Both are complete feeds.

I’m done. Dizzy from all the comparisons and tiny print ingredient reading. Pass on Pro Elite, Seminole and all the others. I like how he does with TCS - like the ingredients - and it’s all about him not me. Gonna have to figure something out. Maybe I’ll ask the guys at the feed store to gently drop the sacks on their side a few times before loading.

Rubber mallets.

My new barn feeds the PE Sr. Am I correct in reading the recommended feeding amounts that my 8yr old in light work need 11lbs a day ?
Formerly ate Dynasty Pro 14/10, 5 lbs a day, and did very well.

My TBs in light to medium work get about 6 pounds a day, about the same as they were getting when they ate TC Senior. They are fairly easy keepers though.

Interesting what JB said about the copper and zinc. My dark bay’s winter coat is coming in darker than ever, and I was wondering if it was related to the mineral content in PE but hadn’t had a chance to look it up yet.

I should add to the above that he also gets about 1 cup of Omega Horseshine a day, which would add calories as well as copper and zinc.

I have not understood why the PE feeding amounts are noticeably higher than the equivalent feed of Triple Crown, but they are. The GA and the cal/lb are not different enough to make up the feeding rate difference, so… shrug

Redemption3, I used a garden hand cultivator to break up the TCSr chunks and it worked great. There are different styles and they need not be expensive. $10 maybe. https://www.gardenmyths.com/hand-garden-cultivator/
