Proven (being the key word) Stallions

True That. BUT…I (guess) I meant still standing older stallions. I’m thinking he isn’t anymore.

Puerto D’Azur 1992

Well bred, performing offspring, and a stud fee that crosses the line from reasonable to cheap.

Apache Pb* 1986 (!)

Short listed for the Pan Am games - superb bloodlines

EH Herzzauber 1988

Up until 2 weeks ago, the only elite Trakehner stallion in NA. Desperately underused.

Pablo 1988

Really; do I need to elaborate???

E.H. Herrzauber and Guy Laroche

Glad you added him Fiona. E.H. Herzzauber is a Trakehner Verband Elite stallion (different criteria & method of designating than ATA Elite stallions. In the ATA an E follows the name; Verband elites are designated by an E.H. - for Elite Hengst - and the designation preceeds the name).

E.H. Herzzauber stood just 2 seasons in Germany (where he was under-utilized b/c grey’s are not popular) yet indexes 120 or higher in 5 of 8 breeding categories ranking German Trakehner Verband sires - past and present - as does another 1988 model, Guy Laroche. In fact, Guy Laroche ranks #1 for offspring w/the best quality foundations. Moreover, at his 100-day test, he received 9’s for temperament, character and rideability - 8s for dressage, free-jumping, walk, canter and willingness to perform.

Breeders would be well-advised to contact the owners of these two exceptional stallions before they are gone. These are exceptional horses who’ve proven their ability to sire offspring against all other TK stallions past & present.

Crassious 7 (I am pretty certain thats how you spell it!)

20 or 21 years old, was on the Brazil Show Jumping team, competed at the Olympics, Holsteiner by Capital 1

One of the most unknown, underutilized stallions out there … entered the breeding shed maybe 2 years ago

Unless you heard about him through word of mouth, you’d never even know he existed …

No shipped semen, about 3 hours north up in the boonies, does it get any better than that about getting the word out on him?! :frowning:

Oh man, after reading that I just realized I’ve spent my whole life confusing Guy Laroche with Glenn Livit:o:o:o

I have to admit there are quite a few horse stallions on here I was unfamiliar with!!! Keep the suggestions coming.

We need more elderly statesmen from the pony world that are still breedig mares posted.

For pony stallions what about

Springbourne Boy Blue (1984)
Llanarth Senator (1988)
Downland Rembrandt (1986)

V’Tropez. (Galoubet-Good Twist xx).
I am seriously thinking of using him this year for a big Escudo/Carbid mare.

He doesnt have very many out there, but from what I see, and having met him, I think he could be a sleeper:-)

Is Longacre Spinoff still around? I spoke with Jinny about 2 years ago and she said he was still covering a few of their mares if I remember correctly. I think he is a 1978 baby?

slight de-rail…

JLA Sir William
Is he a papered Welsh? I could not find him on the Welsh search engine (but I am not too familiar w/ that site…)

Not sure about him having papers (call the Welsh Society) but considering he’s 23, he can be on the list but not sure how dominate his get have been in the performance ring however.

I have to put a plug in for Smoke Tree Silver Dragon (ranked 27th on 2011 leading sires). He is at least 25. He is the sire of several of my ponies and has sired some nice pony hunters in his day including one I bred Hi Foolutin.

Also his full brother Sleight of Hand (ranked 4th on 2011 leading sires) - although not sure if he is still breeding as I believe he is close to 30.

Also JLA Sir William had 8 ponies in the USEF points in 2011 and was ranked 32nd on the leading sires list (more than Crossgates Larasan’s 2 and ranked 44).

He has sadly passed away :frowning:

Glad you noticed that.

I agree with this one:

I strongly suspect that JLA Sir William is a papered Section A welsh. I haven’t personally seen his papers, but I’m pretty sure he has them. He is an old man with wonderful Liseter breeding and well worth breeding your mare to if she’s a good match.
I regret not having bred to Belshazzar, but my remaining mares aren’t a good match.
I think it’s always important to consider the good old bloodlines before they are gone.
I recently sold a pony out of an older Vida Blue daughter by Alra Blue Radiance (who is no longer at public stud) and his new owner keeps telling me to make her another one. Oh how I wish I could!

For eventing and Irish, Pallas Digion is the sire of the horse who has accumulated the second most lifetime points in eventing–Spring Along. He’s pretty aged (23) and is one who should be used as often as possible.

Needs the right mare, of course, but He’s done well with the Tudor Minstrel line.

Pretty sure Downland Rembrandt is no longer at Public stud.

JLA Sir William is indeed a registered Section A Welsh. He was foaled in 1991 and bred by Mrs. duPont.

He has quite a few offspring registered with the WPCSA and the vast majority of them are Half Welsh.

I have to ask - was (or is) the JLA Sir William at any time in CA? I had a welsh stallion board at my farm in Placerville,CA. Back in 1997-99 - owned by Marnye Langer’s mom (ne ?) - what a beauty he was but may not be the same stallion !

sorry to derail - memory lane moment

Excellent posts! Keep them coming!
