PSA: Human Ingestion of Previcox/Equioxx

Firocoxib has never been on the market for people or studied in humans.

Celecoxib is still on the market.

Vioxx, rofecoxib, was pulled from the market after a risk of heart attack and stroke was uncovered.

These are not the same drug, but are in the same class of COX-2 selective NSAIDS. Drugs in the same class are similar in action but are NOT the same drug.

Thanks, well aware they are not the same drugs despite being in the same class.

I was obviously mistaken in my memory on the development so I have deleted my comment.

I have an old, like 30+ years old, Ziggy cartoon hanging on my wall:

Ziggy, in bed, reading the label on a bottle:

“Two pills four times daily”.
Check
“Cover with warm blanket”.
Check
“Check hooves frequently”.
Uh-oh!

Were you thinking of bute? It was originally used in humans, and low platelet level was among the many side effects that ultimately ended its use for people.

Thanks for the laff of the day!!!

The question now : How did he feel once it kicked in? Did it really work on any aches and pains?

For a minute I got confused and thought he ate a Prascend and I was scared to click and find out the aftermath. Glad it was a Previcox!

Well, since he eat it at 9PM, and was in bed by 10:30PM, he didn’t really have any comment on whether it did anything. He was just thrilled to not have to go to the hospital to have his stomach pumped!

I just saw this linked in another thread, thank you for the laugh! When I was in high school I spent the night at a friend’s house and woke up thirsty the next morning. A little hungover, truth be told. Not sure where I found the glass of water, but I filled it more and guzzled it down then went back to bed. The next thing I know my friend is freaking out because I had swallowed her contact lenses that were in saline solution in that glass. Oops. My parents’ homeowners insurance paid for replacements (they were expensive back then). I learned a lesson.

Bumping this thread to say I had someone take two, out of the labeled pill bottle, because they thought they were Benadryl.
I don’t understand how that mistake was made. They were fine.

Watch out for the horse syringe version of Equioxx. The syringe must be locked to deliver a set dose
My dewormer syringe doesn’t require locking, you just twist it to your horse’s weight and it’s set. Well I went to give Equioxx and did not lock the syringe. Instead of giving a small dose, I gave my young horse the entire syringe! I absolutely freaked out
But then after I panic called the vet and then sat down at the computer and googled
the entire syringe is equivalent to 1 tablet. My horse did not even get an upset stomach.

Thankfully Equioxx is relatively safe. But I sure hope the manufacturer fixes that syringe!

I thought you were meant to give the whole syringe? My guess is that is why it doesn’t lock.

Zombie Thread! :ghost:
& Nobody asked my question:
Did DH’s joint pain improve?
If so, I’d stuff that pill into my gummi D3!

ETA:
Oops.

It should be dosed by weight.

That reminds me of a favourite story about my nephew when he was about 3 years old. We were sitting around the family cottage living room. We all tend to walk around barefoot out there and we can get the occasional sticky patch of pine gum on the bottoms of our feet.

So nephew is seen chewing on something.
Mom: what are you eating?
Nephew: I don’t know
Mom: where did you get it?
Nephew: off my foot

I probably shouldn’t say this, but your nephew’s logic is about on a par with what a few adults I know are consuming, or planning to consume. And my labrador retriever, as well.

Ah I see. Looking at a picture of the tube, it looks like it locks the same as Ulcergard?
