PSA: Working Equitation in the US

Agree with Lorilu.

Also, right now, there are three organizations in the US with three sets of rules (although they are similar, the rules are not exactly the same).

And Velvet, don’t really know who you are, how you ride, or in what discipline, but I assure you that there are professionals and a few upper-level riders in WE. It doesn’t seem that you have really looked into it before making your assumptions.

Well, I knew that would be unpopular, but I was thinking more in terms of using the same venue, even though most competitors wouldn’t cross enter, just like it’s not the same people entering reining and hunter pleasure at a breed show, but it’s all there in one venue.

I think it would inspire some lower level wd competitors and also attract working eq riders who might go ahead and enter the higher level WD classes.

Seems like all disciplines are in a stovepipe and then we wonder why horses and riders aren’t more versatile.

Well, the upcoming Southeast Baroque show at the end of October has breed classes, a USDF/USEF dressage show, and on Friday, a WE show. Same venue.

I’m glad you brought that up. You’re talking about the show at Canterbury, right? I looked up the prize list and didn’t find Working Equitation listed anywhere. Is it called something else on the prize list that I’m just not recognizing?

I live right there and would like to come and take a look.

I still don’t see anyplace where it tells what classes are being offered and when for the WE. In addition to the Facebook page, there is a web site but none of the links (like the one to prize list and ride times) work for me.

look on this page for the WE prize list and entry form. https://www.facebook.com/events/1076293765757828/permalink/1139006759486528/

Look here for the USDF/USEF?Breed show. It’s in the photos…

Apparently I’m an idiot (I know, no surprise to some of you) because I still don’t see any kind of class list for WE so I can get an idea of when to come to see which classes.

But never mind, because it turns out that I know somebody who knows somebody, so I’ll find out that way.

There are at least 7 pages of entry form. All you have to do is page through to the right one.
This one;

No need to get snippy. Did you look at the link you just posted? Because it isn’t a link to what I asked for.

I don’t want an entry form. I want the program, the showbill, the prize list, the class list, whatever you want to call it, that tells exactly what classes are being offered, the order in which the classes will be held, what time the first class starts, where the lunch break falls - so that I can plan to be there to see the classes I’m most interested in.

In the links you and lorilu posted, I found exactly that - for the breed show and for the dressage, but not for the WE.

But like I said, never mind, because I can get the information from a friend.

Apparently. Entries haven’t closed yet. (It is only possible to schedule times before entries close, if all entries per class are in the ring at the same time.)

So is what you’re saying that for WE, there is no traditional “class list” like a “regular” horse show or dressage competition? That they don’t know what classes are going to be held until they see what people have entered?

Then why didn’t you just say so in the first place, instead of repeatedly offering links to pages that didn’t have what I was asking for and then acting like I was an idiot because I couldn’t find what I was looking for?

The show does have “class lists” for both the breed show and the dressage competition, so I think most people could understand why someone who is unfamiliar with WE competitions would think that there must be one for WE, too. Way to welcome newcomers to your sport.

No - The classes were listed on the entry form to which all the links point. It is not my sport.

Well, even with dressage shows you never know which test will be scheduled when until the day sheets and times come out. Since entries are open until a week before the show, check back after that.
If you are a H/J rider you never know when a class will be either, since riders seem to show up as they please. That is frustrating when I want to watch one friend’s round.

The only “classes” are the levels. Intro through Master,as the entry form indicates. There will be dressage tests first, then the ease of handling obstacles, then the speed obstacles for levels above Intro.
No reason to get pissy.
