I have read that guidance from Kellon. I have also read from others that some combo of moderate fat and ALCAR can be beneficial. I think Kellon is especially talking about cases where the horse really can’t handle a higher fat diet (they get obese, or IR).

I don’t think the aceytl l-carnitine is a problem in itself, even if given to a “normal” horse. It’s the high fat that is a problem for some horses, including some PSSM horses.

Thank you piedm. The reason I was concerned is the low carb grain I give has some added fat. I was adding more but never as much as some recommend. And I was giving the ALC. So I have messed around with different combinations.
