put your weather rants here!

Guess I will just be glad for what we have, over what we HAD LAST YEAR. Single digit temp over minus digit temps. ONLY a couple inches of snow over feet deep snow to traverse to dump the spreader. ELECTRIC WORKING, and has been right along. We have the generator, have NOT needed it so far. YAYYY

I had Yax Traks on my boots from Dec to April last year, after I slipped on the ice and tore my knee before Christmas, got surgery to fix knee the day after Christmas and it works GOOD. Lumpy, frozen mud is not slippery, thank heavens, gives good grip under my boots.

I guess while it is cold, winter, it sure beats last year and I am glad for what we have now. Thank you for the weather!!

Ok, so we are now under an “Extreme Cold Warning” to go with the “Snow Squall Warning”… forecast 5-10cm of snow/blowing snow (more in squalls), gusting wind to 60km/hr, and windchills at or below -40.

It was 80 degrees today in Los Angeles and I had to take off my puffy vest. Waaaaaaah!

We did have an earthquake a few days ago, though, so I guess it all evens out.

Supposed to be 2F Wednesday night. @&$+^%#¥[/QUOTE]

I have to fly into DC tomorrow night. Some helpful Hamilton, ONT teacher last March mistook my only coat for one the kids forgot… I hope Mom isn’t delayed from meeting my plane or Caribbean me is sunk sunk clunk frozen!

I’m back to launch another complaint. It’s getting worse! -35 to -40 windchills tonight. What a load of crap! My horses will likely be fine in the run-in with plenty of hay, but I still feel badly for them. The bitter cold is bad enough, but tolerable compared to the howling wind.

Knocking on wood that nothing freezes, breaks, bursts, implodes, explodes, etc.

You’re out of the family. Both of you.

(Kidding, kidding, kidding. I’ll take winter over earthquakes and mudslides and SoCal traffic most days. Maybe not today, though.)

Same in Minnesota, just pulled this screenshot from Accuweather: https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/10917082_2790760852335_8833303775559848508_n.jpg?oh=28c052d078f6991ddf0fcb0415aeec25&oe=552C07D1

Good morning, it is -11F, windchill -34F… I’m procrastinating instead of going out to feed the horses…

No. Just no.
noooooooooooooooooooo

i actually woke up from a dream saying “no, no, no” I think I was banging my head against the wall in my dream.

We’re in the midst of a “system” of frigid temps, high winds and lake effect snow “where squalls persist”. Love the official weather phrases! Thanks Lake Erie for not freezing yet…:(. But on the plus side, ponies are all fine, house is warm, and I don’t really have an urgent need to venture outside today.

It’s cold, it’s awful. I’m an apartment dweller who lives on the third floor with two dogs who have to go to the dog park at least three times a day. I have to carry the mini aussie because her feet freeze before we’re half way out there. The German Shepherd keeps looking at me when I do this like “why is she the favorite child? My feet are cold too…” This morning coming in, my Sheppy had to take a break inside the hallway door before her feet could handle going up the stairs.

We are also supposed to be making our Open obedience debut the weekend after this, her retrieve over a jump needs work, and it’s too damn cold to do anything.

also, my new horse was feral for her first three years. I know she’s cold, but I’m pretty sure if I try to blanket her, she will go through the barn wall… She also needs to work more on long lining…

It’s going down to -15 tonight. I hate sorting out blankets for -15 degrees.

I’m probably going to jinx myself because I just can’t keep my mouth shut, but…

I am so THANKFUL that this little cold snap here in coastal VA is a DRY cold snap. No precipitation makes life so much easier!

Down in the low- to mid-teens tonight, with gusty winds for a wind chill around 0 to -5. That is doable, especially when it is dry and short-lived.

Some of you with super low temps and double-digit wind chills, my hat’s off to you. I just can’t imagine enduring that.

Love the way the radio and even NOAA start hyping the Wind Chill Factor as if it was the actual temperature; they DO know WCF only matters if you’re naked and soaking wet, right?

Keeping exposed skin covered in extreme cold USED to be, like, DUH.

Wind chill MATTERS, you don’t have to be naked for it to affect how the cold works on you! They keep hammering on wind chill so you take the appropriate precautions when outside, are not TRICKED by the thermometer readings that are so much higher.

And as you get further North, out of the warmer (it is all relative, ha ha) States, the wind chill matters a GREAT DEAL when you are outside. You cover with several layers, no exposed skin, over “just” putting on your bibs and a thick coat. I wear 3 pair of mittens, outside is leather, since “only” 2pr is not keeping me warm. Wool mittens are the best! Gloves of any kind are useless to me, fingers freeze fast.

Not sure where you are LE, but we take wind chill seriously when you have to be outside working in it more than 15 minutes. Not dressing enough or correctly, can get you hurt, frostbit or worse. And the lower the wind chill, NOT just the temps, the faster damage happens.

Chill factor is very important to humans.

We are only 16F but with 30+ winds from the North, the chill factor somewhere in the -something, just walking back from doing chores, across 140’, it was seriously, achingly cold on my face, thanks to that chill factor.
I was remembering all those pictures of barns attached to a house, sure would have been nice today, brrrr.

The horses were staying under the barn, not coming to greet me.
It was cold even for them.

It’s between single digits and mid-20’s here all week with snow or “frozen mix” in the forecast for next week. We are not well equipped for cold in this area. I was supposed to be in Denver for my nephew’s wedding on Saturday, but I can only for one day because of work, and it’s in the 40’s & 50’s (for highs) there all week, and my relatives are spending the week skiing. I won’t go on Facebook because I don’t want to read about how much fun they’re having.

Obviously some of you have it much worse, and - yeah! - reading about other people’s misery makes me feel a little less miserable. Mostly I worry about my horses.

It’s supposed to be 66 in San Francisco area today. Brrrrrrrrr! I might actually have to wear a long sleeve shirt when I ride instead of my usual t-shirt

All kidding aside, I feel for you guys! I am an Northern Virginia native with family still in Front Royal area. I definitely remember cold winters! Stay warm!
