Question about adult on 13.2 POA pony

My daughter is 5’6 and 145 pounds and her mare is 14 hands and of average build. They do fine together. I also occasionally ride the mare if needed. I am 3 inches taller and 10 pounds heavier but she does fine. She just feels small to me.

You are not crazy for considering this one, grab her before someone else does. (She seems perfect for you, from your description.)

I owned and rode a 13.3 hand POA cross mare for years. She was a fun but challenging little mare who had an incredible work ethic. I showed her at some small fun shows and she held her own against the big horses. I say go for it!

I’m 5’7" and weigh 140. I rode a 13.3 mustang for many years, and we did everything.
Buy her, and enjoy her!

I love ponies! Mine is taller than you POA at about 14.2, but I’ve ridden my friend’s welsh/arab cross that was probably 13.2 and light boned. I’m 5’5" ish. I never had a pony as a kid so I’m doing it now and loving it.

Go for it!

(My pony is my avatar and also linked in my signature line if you want to see an adult on a pony.)

My retired driving pony is 13.2 and is a widebody. My vet said that I could have ridden that pony regularly, had I still ridden. I weigh quite a bit more than you do, OP.

As a Pony Clubber and mother of Pony Clubbers, now grown, I’ve seen a lot of ponies.

Always think that 13.2 hh is a super size. Small enough to give confidence to children, they can brush and reach the horse, but big enough that a smaller adult can get on and straighten them out when they need it.

We had one when our daughter was eight and she fit the pony for three years or so, before being passed on down to another P.C. kid.

Just going to add that I don’t think that the cheap synthetic saddles on regular western trees fit very many horses or ponies well. The heaviness of the skirts of a leather saddle help distribute weight when on a traditional western tree. If you observe very many of the cheap synthetics you can see that the riders weight is not well distributed at all.

I am sure that there are good ones out there if you want a synthetic but just a heads up

Oh and go for it! I love POA’s

Oh boy, you guys are making me itchy for pony!

My screen name is from a childhood fantasy - Cheap Trick was to be the name of the roan pony that never showed up under the Christmas tree. I’m thinking that this coming Christmas, I’m playing Santa for myself and puting a roan pony under my Christmas tree.

My big boy Jack needs a side kick, right? Right???

OP - go for the POA, you’ll be living the dream!

I much prefer smaller horses (and ponies); I ride a 15h crossbreed and a 14.1 pony. I’m a little more petite than you, but a stout body takes up a lot of leg. Enjoy!!
