Finish Line has a new sweat product if you haven’t tried it yet. We’ve had some luck with it!
I asked the anhidrosis group about beet pulp - it started quite a conversation! Someone said that US beet pulp contains aluminum, which inhibits sweating. But the UK brand Speedi-Beet did not have aluminum.
I feed Unbeetable w/o molasses - I have contacted them to see what I can find out.
It’s true that some beet pulp is processed using a press aid of Alum sulfate. But some uses calcium sulfate. That’s used to help remove moisture from the pulp, NOT during the process of extracting the sugar as some claim.
well my guy gets a beet pulp based feed so I ordered him a low protein no beet pulp sweet feed today from seminole. another friend also recommended something called Equine Mega Sweat. It’s expensive but she said it really worked. it’s supposed to only be a short term use thing, then they have another product you go to. So I ordered both and time will tell.
I’ve used 4 or 5 other supplements over the last several years and they either work for a season then quit or didn’t work at all. This year I tried the vodka and it pretty much worked although he never sweated like a “normal” horse. Then it seems to have quit working a few weeks ago. Ugh. At this point I’m willing to try anything.
@Boomer which group was it? I’m in a couple of those groups on fb and there doesn’t seem to be much activity on them.
I’m using 1AC and Platinum Refresh for my stocky Irish TB cross. It’s helping some, but if it’s over 85 I don’t trailer anymore. Vodka - how much do you give them? I can drink the excess.
We have healthy sweating today
Finally.
Day 13 of double dosing of
Mad Barn Electrolytes.
4 servings per day.
Also put up a 35x50 paddock
Totally shaded by big oak trees.
Also removed joint supplements and Jiaogulan.
Daily hosing in 90 + degree heat.
One study I read said an unbalanced diet can cause non- sweating.
What was the reason for removing the Jiaogulan?
Overall I think her diet is pretty balanced, it’s pretty much just a little beet pulp with sprout pellets + Mad Barn AminoTrace+ - but I do add salt, extra zinc & copper (helps with the skin issues), vit E, and Jiaogulan. She gets an extra water bucket with electrolytes alongside regular water.
I’m curious about the Jiaogulan/joint supplements - I started after a never-ending abscess last year but I don’t necessarily need to keep her on it. I found it helped my other horse with her summer allergies a bit (coughing less).
We weren’t seeing any improvement for the sweating
Problem so I decided to remove all un- necessary supplements after I saw the unbalanced diet comment.
I found if I served 2 or 3 servings of electrolytes in her pellets, I knew she was getting it all. I add
About half gallon of water to pellets
Thanks!!
LOL. I started with one shot twice a day and now I’m up to 2 shots 2x a day. He initially started sweating at 2 shots a day then after a couple of months started tapering off so I increased it to two. They say use the nastiest grain vodka you can find, not potato.
How do you feed (drink?) it? With grain? I’m not sure I can convince my horse to just down a shot
Guinness Stout is still the answer for my horse. I make a mash with hay pellets. He loves it - I think he would drink it from the bottle!
Lol I just pour it on his grain . I usually soak his grain a little too just for more water, but he will eat pretty much anything .

I think thats the one I’m on there doesn’t seem to be much activity on it
that’s strange - I’ve posted recently as have a couple of other people.
Just ordered some One A/C as
She stopped sweating, again.
Can anyone explain WHY alcoholic beverages helps the non-sweating horse?
What’s the science behind it?
I was talking with my vet about it and she seemed to think it’s due to the vasodialation effect of the alcohol. But I haven’t seen anything “official” about that.
