Question About Orthoflex Saddles

I am eyeing one for sale online. A patriot with a “panel system 3”. Anyone know what a panel system 3 is and if that is good or bad?

The way that panel system 3 was explained to me is that the panels are shorter and do not extend so far in front of and behind the seat of the saddle. Last time I spoke to the company, they were trying to get me to “upgrade” to system 3. Supposedly system 3 fit more types of horses…

But these may be the newer models that put the rider higher off the horse’s back.

Ortho-Flex system 3 is an improved flex . The Duralon Panel have finger cuts.

Old Ortho Flex S290

I just bought a used Ortho FLex S290. I also just found out that this is a saddle from the old company and all the records were destroyed in 2001. Does anyone know how I can find out more about this saddle? It’s a stitchdown english type and is in excellent condition. I have used it a couple of times and it is very comfortable for me and seems to fix my horse (TWH) well. I like the saddle regardless, just hoping for a little history.

Thanks for this links. I had already tried the ortho flex website. After your email I also tries the tbark one and got the same reply. Oh well, I guess it will remain a mystery. All that matters is that it is comfortable for me and the horse.

What kind of history do you want? I have a Stitchdown, bought new during the original company incarnation. Great saddle!

dragging this thread up from years ago because i am trying an english orthoflex next week and am very hopeful it will suit at least one my horses.
it’s older and looks sort of like a jumping or all purpose saddle, but with dressage length billets.
no name or model number as far as i can see in the photos.
any ideas which it could be?

Hi Suz,
It might be an Exmoor. Do you have photos of it? I have an Exmoor, which is an A/P type saddle, sort of like a Stubben VSD. It has drop billets like a dressage saddle, done in such a way that they are very easily replace.

That might be the Feather. I was looking at one but it turned out to have a 17" seat, and I really need an 18" seat. Fit my horse very well. lol I’m still considering it just in case I lose weight. It really is a good saddle. Hope it works for you.

Several years ago, an old guy that works the trash/recycling station called me to ask if I wanted a saddle that two women had thrown away. They said they hated the saddle. I went to take a look. It was an ortho-flex ( P290 maybe?) It looked like a deep- seated dressage type saddle in great condition. So I gave him $25 for it. I loved how that saddle felt but it came no where close to fitting my belgian.

I sold it for more than $25:) but the woman who bought it seemed to feel that she got a good deal.

She said she loved these saddles, (competetive trail on a gaited horse), but she has those panel deals removed. She has a saddle maker take them off and re-line the bottom of the saddle.
