I successfully just (April - May) treated grade 3 ulcers in my horse. The follow up scope was gorgeous with no indications of ulcers. He would get sucralfate 30-45 mins before breakfast. Since he is inside at night it was assumed his stomach would be fairly empty at this time as he’d have easily finished or boycotted the rest of his hay. I would arrive in the afternoon (3:30 pm) and give him Ulcergard. Typically this was a time where he hadn’t had much food as it was before dinner. I would then ride/lunge or whatever light exercise I was doing depending on how far into treatment we were. Then I’d give Sucralfate and wait about 30 mins to give dinner. Sometimes I’d give the UG and sucralfate within 30 mins of each other. UG was always first. I don’t know what is “right” or “wrong” but I will tell you that I had a followup scope at 6 weeks and the stomach was beautiful! I changed nothing about his food during that time. He got alfalfa/mix hay and 3 lbs of Buckeye EQ8 AM and PM.
