Question for dog breeders

Of course, quality of the bitch is subjective, and is up to the digression of the stud dog owner. Some champion bitches I have vetoed, and others who have not finished have been accepted.

Generally it is about the cost of a puppy. The breeders that I have dealt with have had a 2 or 3 puppy guarantee.

Our male’s stud fee is $1000, which is less than the 1500-2000 price of a puppy. His fee will go no higher than this. He is a completely health tested and proven stud dog who is also a champion, group winner, and National Specialty winner. A son front his first litter went BOW at this year’s National, so he is proving himself as a producer, as well. That being said, he is one of the “hotter” sires in the breed right now, and I know that I would never consider a bitch who was unproven in the ring, no matter how well bred she is. In fact, we just turned one down. My reason for this is that I want to make sure that he is breeding bitches that have been deemed “worthy” by someone other than an owner, and I want to make sure that his puppies will have the opportunity to be more than companions. A person who has titled the bitch is, in my opinion, more likely to title the pups, as well. If you truly want to breed to a top dog, I think it would be worth your time to title your bitch.

We guarantee two live pups in the litter and will offer a repeat breeding should less than two pups result. All travel, AI expenses, progesterone expenses, etc are the responsibility of the bitch owner. In breeding, look for and carefully read the male’s breeding contract. It should be one you can live with.
