Racetracks of the world on Google Maps.

What I would like do is figure out how to overlay the images. Anybody figure that out? Randy Moss is always talking about doing this during the Preakness.

This is more centered on the harness track:

Saratoga Gaming & Raceway - on Jefferson Street; Nelson Avenue divides the harness race track from the Saratoga Race Course and formerGreentree stables now owned by Sheikh Mo.

Anybody notice how the general parking areas at many of the American tracks are ghost-town empty? :uhoh:

I wonder when some of these pictures were taken. At Suffolk I can tell that the picture was taken during the live season; the trees are green and the parking area at the backside is full…I think I can even see a few horses -(or are those tractors?)- on the track, so I’m guessing it’s late morning…

They supposedly fly in the late fall when it is still somewhat resembles natural colors but late enough so that the bush, shrub, and trees are down. I know they are in the process of re-flying alot of areas where the resolution is poor.

However, we have questioned this (the season they fly) often but it does appear that the areas they have recently flown follow this-or they are at least using some fancy equipment that allows you to “see through” the trees as you zoom in. Google Earth, which you have to buy, is much better! It is super cool.

OOps. I missed. I could have sworn that I had moved the center… Glimmerglass has it correct.

You can also see the Clare Court training track just south of the main track, and the original track just south of the Oklahoma. Clare court is still in use for training.

The Chantilly training centre north of Paris. Over 4500 acres, most of it wooded, it has close to 75 miles of gallops, which weave their way in and out of the woods. If you zoom you can make out the gallops through the trees and the various barns where the 2500 odd horses who train there are stabled. The longest gallop is the Piste de Lions which runs 2.5 miles dead straight through the forest southwest from the Chateau de Chantilly.

The dirt track looks like a harness track.

Balmoral Park[/QUOTE]

I think this link shows that harness track a bit better. Balmoral Park - Crete, IL (Will County)

Is that a defunct harness or greyhound track at Balmoral?

It is an active harness track. TVG airs the racing late in the evening. I stable my mare down in that relative area (it takes about an hour driving south from Chicago)

Balmoral Park; which also is a OTB facility as well so I’ve placed bets there. In fact I recall betting on Sweet Catomine in the Santa Anita Derby from that track after a riding lesson

Nice/Cagnes-sur-mer, France

They run trotters, runners and jumpers. There’s an all weather track of about 1.3 miles. Harness track is .8 mile. Turf and jumpers of varying lengths and configurations. I don’t know what goes on in the infield…

Didn’t realize it was a harness track. So is it a defunct greyhound track in the infield? Or mini-cars?

Balmoral use to be a 5/8ths track and has only been a mile for less than 10 years. So, that’s the old track. The meet use to be TB’s half the year and Harness the other half now it’s harness year around.

Well if you squint with this link you can see Great Meadow, home of the Virginia Gold Cup and International Gold Cup.

All I get is a generic map of the US and a message saying “We were not able to locate the address:”

There isn’t google satellite map coverage for The Plains, VA (Great Meadow) nor is there coverage over most of Wester Loudoun Co or Fauquier Co.

It raises an interesting quirk about google as it would seem to appear that some locations are protected from prying eyes from above. No I’m not talking about government military bases and the like. But rather the oddity, for example, of not getting see Tuxedo Park, NY yet lands outside that 3,000 acrea gated community is available vai satellite.

Ok Corrected::

Sorry forgot about that with Google.

Digging up an old thread …

Middleburg Training Center - M’burg VA

Events of the day have me in a nostalgic mood.

(Defunct) Narragansett Park:

Then, and

Now.

Yes, that’s right, all that’s left is the grandstand, and it’s a BLDG #19 discount retail center. Good stuff cheap.

Lincoln Downs:

Then, and

Now - Twin Rivers Casino (no live racing)

One more: random google map of interest

How does that relate to racing? The notorious fugitive arrested at that location earlier today was the leader of the gang which once fixed races at Suffolk Downs.

Thus ends my history lesson for the day.
