The 135th Kentucky Oaks goes off at 5:45 pm EST.
Calvin Borel who has won twice on the rail today already was asked how ‘Rachel’ will enjoy this track and he said “she’ll love it”
Is it being broadcast anywhere?
She’s amazing. Simply amazing.

The 3-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly was dominant over her six rivals, drawing off down the lane to win by a staggering 20 1/4 lengths in a magnificent performance.

Borel had already opened up a clear advantage as the field straightened away for home and the race was for second at that point. Borel patted Rachel Alexandra on the side of her neck as she coasted under the wire and the crowd applauded her performance appreciatively.
“She is the best horse I’ve ever been on, and I don’t know how good she is,” said Borel, who won the Kentucky Derby on Street Sense. “Street Sense was a good horse; he had a good turn of foot. But until I really have to ask her, I don’t know how good she is. She’s incredible.”
OMG THE THINGS I MISS WHEN I HAVE TO WORK.
Is the race video on line anywhere yet?
HOLY CRAP.
Thank you!
that looked like fun
Wow!
Gives me that same tingly feeling I get when I watch Secretariat videos. I’d love to see how she’d do against the boys. She’s just out there playing.
WOO HOO!! Just watched the race…thank God I dvr’ed it! AMAZING!!!
Just to hammer it home: NJ Star Star-Ledger 5-1-09: “Rachel Alexandra wins Kentucky Oaks by record-setting margin on eve of Kentucky Derby”
The 3-10 favorite set a stakes record for winning margin and just missed the stakes clocking, winning by 20 1/4 widening lengths with no urging from Borel before a crowd of 104,867 at Churchill Downs.
“I’ve been on a lot of horses, but I’ve never been on one like her,” said Borel, after Rachel Alexandra improved to 4-for-4 as a 3-year-old and won for the seventh time in 10 career starts.
The time for the mile and an eighth was 1:48.87 – just a tick off Bird Town’s Oaks record time of 1:48.64.
… But she was so impressive that it had many wondering afterward if she should have been entered in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby instead.
“I’d love it to death,” said Borel. “But the owners did the right thing.”
Borel called Rachel Alexandra “the best 3-year-old filly in the country,” then added “but I don’t know how good she is yet. She’s done everything I ask.”
We’ll see a lot more of this wonderful gal - I hope - in the future. I’ve known she’s been pretty special and yet even today she did the impossible - she notched even one more jaw dropping effort on her resume. Simply wow!
WOW, wow, wow!!! SUCH an awesome girl!!! and what a nice race!!
A few news wire photos

I love this filly! I DVRd the race and just kept saying, “Damn! Damn! Damn!”
I’m having a tough time getting excited about the Derby this year - it’s SO overloaded with horses who haven’t done jack. But this filly! Wow!
I was so, so lucky today to get to see Rachel Alexandra win in person. I’ve never been to such a big race, nor got to see such a great horse win, other than on tv. It just gave me goosebumps, she was simply just awesome.
She was awesome!! I hope both she and Zenyatta stay healthy. What a BC distaff that would make.
Rachel
All I can say is that the boys running today should thank their lucky stars that Rachel ran yesterday and isn’t in today.
I think she may be the best horse in the country let alone filly or even 3 year old.:yes:
I can’t wait to see how far she demolishes a field by when Calvin finally asks her to run!!! Twenty one lengths under wraps, and coming home in 12 and change??? CRAZY!!!:eek::yes::yes::yes:
I just love how Calvin patted her neck as she crossed the finish line. That’s a silly filly who knows her job. What a GREAT girl!
No American Classic (“Triple Crown” races) entries for Rachel Alexandra
She’ll appear on the undercard for the Belmont Stakes in the Acorn
The 3-year-old filly, who crushed the field in Friday’s Kentucky Oaks by a record 20¼ lengths, will probably make her next start in the $300,000 Acorn at Belmont on June 6, the same day as the final jewel of the Triple Crown.
“This gives her five weeks, which is what I like,” trainer Hal Wiggins said.
She hardly looked tired the day after her amazing stretch run, dragging her groom around barn 30 during an early morning walk a few hours before the Kentucky Derby.
“Maybe she is the monster people have been talking about,” Wiggins said.
Even after watching his filly perhaps stamp herself as the top 3-year-old in the country — boy or girl — owner Dolphus Morrison said he has no plans to enter his star in either of the remaining Triple Crown races.
Winning the Oaks was more than enough for Wiggins. The longtime horseman called Rachel Alexandra’s dazzling performance the highlight of a career spanning more than three decades.
