Rachel Alexandra will not be bred in 2014 (I think that's what it says)

One of Ken Ramsey’s best Kitten mares has a C section every year. I want to say Kitten’s First but that might not be right.

Why do people assume because a horse is retired and sound that they need to have a job? My mare could care less one way or the other if I never rode her again. Not saying that she is not happy being ridden but is just as happy to be out eating and being a horse. She does enjoy the things that come with the riding ie being groomed and fussed over but does not have to have a job per say.
RA earned her retirement whether that includes foals or not and she is happy to be a horse out doing horse things plus I’m sure that she is groomed and given attention everyday which is more then enough. Her job now is to just breathe LOL

It has been shown that for the mental and physical health work even if it is light is healthy. Why could she just not be healthy and happy.? Retirement does not always mean happy. I know my retired guy loves doing something. He cannot be ridden so we do other things and you can certainly tell the difference when he is worked and not.

Who ever said she was unhappy to start with? Let her be.

I think the only humorous part about any of this is that her well being becomes a public discussion. We can think , speculate and even offer our opinions till our fingers are sore. But the bottom line is she is NOT our mare …nor are we saddled with the responsibilities of the choices about her care.

Fighting over whether she should have a C section or get a job or remain forever in a field full of butterflies and daisies is not really up to us nor do we have to shoulder the consequences of those choices.

Since she’s not ours it is literally impossible to say what each of us would do. Project all we like … but none of it really matters.

Kitten’s First had three foals via C-section (Kitten’s Joy was one of them). She foundered and was euthanized in 2006.
