Rambo Neck covers being destroyed by pasture mate

I’m with you on this!

I have two geldings who live together and one of them LOVES to rip off the velcro attachments for the neck cover. So far they have destroyed 3 heavy blankets (and, of course, none of my rambo and rhino blankets have the same neck attachments), and the one where they didn’t destroy the neck was one that I came into the barn one morning to a naked horse. I still don’t understand. Sigh.

I tried taping the neck with gorilla tape. It did not work. If you tape over the velcro the chewer just rips it off (I think it might make it even more fun. sigh.). If you wrap the tape all the way around the neck…the chewer still just rips it off. I’ve also tried all sorts of sprays…nothing has had an impact.

I did just keep replacing blankets and neck covers until one day it seemingly stopped for no reason. So I don’t know what to tell you. Other than the fact that tape does nothing.

A zipper would be great…really anything without a tab for the offending horse to grab would be great. But I’m not about to amend any of my hoods. I’m just holding out for the end of winter when I can take the neck cover off. And maybe this guy will live in a high neck next winter instead of a blanket with a full neck cover.
