Oh, I think lots of “them” post here.

We have seen ‘them’ and they is us!

One of those alarms caused one of my fav nights in the dorms ever! I was woken by my roommate when she was scared cause the alarm was going off, ventured outside in my PJs, and surprise! A tree was on fire! None of us could go back to sleep(it was 4 in the morning) so we drank and then had the sober neighbor drive us to the beach to watch the sunrise. FABULOUS!

About the horse shows, I do think some people hesitiate to leave the security of their local shows where the blue ribbon is assured. Personally, once I started to widen my horizon, the more local shows drove me crazy. The courses weren’t as good, the judging even more political, and well…everything was of less quality. I would rather do less shows but have that one show be of good quality with the best competition around…even if all I brought home for proof of it was a bill

Great, let’s all get in a big fight about a virtual horse show, shall we?

Cactuskate – I know what you mean. I got whupped in the 3’6" jumper by some absolutely awesome horses. The one that got first couldn’t have been any tighter with its knees.

Oh Flash, LOL!

I posted pics of my dtr and her green-bean in the Children’s eq and Childrens Hunter (2’-2’6"), and I am absolutely thrilled she placed 5th and Rio placed 16th (8th, grp B)! She is one of “them” who only shows local, and they are so far to the “bottom” that they are local-rated C shows with only 11.5’ strides! Next year, they are aiming for local B’s and maybe some local A’s when we can swing it.

This has given her the confidence she has needed in the last month since she has been trainerless and is heading for her circuit finals this weekend. What makes the eq so special is that it was a pic from 3 months ago and her eq has improved considerably since then! Someone even gave her a 91.5, and she averaged just under 81.5. How cool is that?!

Thanks to everyone who put this together and to those who participated.

But in both classes, I beat the 11 year old daughter of a long-time client, who was riding in her first show on an old borrowed Morgan.

Not to mention that in one class, the 11-yr-old and I were tied, and Fat Boy got the nod.

Oh yeah, I feel fantastic about that…

I show in the A/O hunters and sometimes at smaller A shows, there are like 3 or 4 in the A/O hunter division, and they are all really really nice horses. So even if you put in a flawless round, you still could place last. When this happens I feel really bad just because I got last. This also sucks when you win though and it’s like eh, there are only 3 or 4 people. I got champion last show I went to, and I didn’t really care because there were only 4 in the division. Ofoucrse these classes are huge at bigger shows, but at 1 A shows, the a/o’s don’t always fill here in Central FL…I can’t win…I also hate fire drills which I just had in the beginning of writing this at 11 pm…we are in college not kindergarden! ahhh!!! lol

dcm, congratulations! Just because the competition isn’t always what you’d like it to be is no reason not to push yourself, trainer or not… I’m sure your daughter will do fine at the bigger shows (if anything, it’s easier to jump a properly set-up course than some of those dreadful over-the-fence-and-one-really-short-stride-to-the-
corner-of-the-ring courses I remember)

as clothes making a difference. Meant only that in the top competitive levels you can make yourself shine. Yes they do dress according to"code", so what they are still top performers. What I meant was do not be tempted drop to the lowest possible level just to get a ribbon, strive to the highest level, even if you can’t win there. You will challenge yourself to be a better rider. Not just beat what is there.

Those were the worst. Except we had some incidents where STUPID people set off the smoke detectors. One time some girls set if off doing their hair. 11 isn’t too late. The 2 am ones got really old real fast. After they went off in the middle of the night a few times I swore I would never go downstairs unless I smelled smoke (which I did in one case, but I turned some more morons burned some popcorn really bad in the microwave). Glad I got out of the dorms.

PS: “Irregardless” is a word; it’s in the Random House Webster’s College Dictionary.

Well, yes, but so is “ain’t”

Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

I know you will simply be shocked to learn this (given our low tolerance for debating the inane, and whatnot ), but we actually spent a good many pages debating this word over a year ago

As for the level of horse shows one attends, hopefully one has the financial means to attend the shows where both rider and horse is truly competetive, because those ribbons are sooooo much better!

But I have seen occasions where the green-ness of the horse requires a drop down, but on the occasions I have done it, I assure you, I considerd myself lucky to be competetive… or get out of the ring in one piece!!!
