Has anyone switched from one to the other, and if so, what were your results? I’ve always been a TC fan, but someone at the barn is feeding Hygain and likes it. Any firsthand experience?
I assume you mean the Balanced product? Without a more complete GA available it’s hard to know how it compares fully, but offhand the 30% vs 25% protein could be significant, and would have me feeding at the high end of the range to make up for that. Offhand it looks a lot like the Tribute balancer (Essential K) - good quality, but generally lower nutrition. If the forage is high quality, that may be just fine. Or feed a little more.
I’m not familiar with Hygain at all, has never even been on my radar so whichever product is comparable to TC 30%, which I currently feed. Barn is considering switching over. I’m trying to decide if I should switch or pay out of pocket to stay on my beloved TC.
It’s an Australian company, but several products have fairly recently become available in the US
If they will provide that and feed the higher rate, then it’s worth a try. If it doesn’t work, then you can see about going back to TC
Yes, I had done a bit of research, and that was my thought as well. I was wondering if anyone here had tried it, and if so, they were happy (or not). Doesn’t really sound like it so far, lol!
We use this is NZ and it is a super product - some of my horses have been pretty fussy about balancer pellets but they love this one an have done really well on it.
Anyone know if Australia typically feeds a lot more alfalfa/lucerne? If so that would likely explain the lower protein profile.
Lucerne is a very common feed in Australia. When I lived in Sydney years ago the only hay available was lucerne. Hygain are a very reputable company in Australia.
I figured as much, and that would explain why it’s formulated like it is.
Interesting observation, thanks for sussing that out! Also interesting is that the only 2 posters commenting on it are greenies.
