Reasonable substitute for Tribute Essential K ration balancer (TC, Buckeye, etc.) ?

New horse has been doing well on Tribute Essential K twice daily along with good quality alfalfa/grass mix hay. Unfortunately, the nearest Tribute feeds dealers aren’t all that convenient to my everyday home/work/barn route.

Most convenient feed store to me stocks Buckeye, Triple Crown, Emerald Valley Naturals, and Hueber. Any idea wha the most similar product to Essential K might be form one of these manufacturers? Any particularly glowing reviews or personal experiences?

Tribute was created by an ex-Buckeye employee, so I’d hazard to guess that the Gro-n-Win will be closest to the Essential K. TC30 will probably be the closest from Triple Crown; all three are ration balancers. I don’t know if Emerald Valley has a ration balancer per se, but they may have a multi vitamin option and I don’t know Hueber at all.

Gro-n-Win is a very popular option at the feed store I work at in Virginia, across the board from pleasure to performance. I do like the flexibility a ration balancer offers in general.

Buckeye Grow N Win, grass formula

I used to be a huge fan of Buckeye, but their formulas changed when they sold. I would go with TC first.

I personally find Buckeye’s Gro N Win and Triple Crown’s TC30 far superior to Tribute Essentials K based on my experiences with my own horses. Although I also seem to be the only person on the planet whose horses did horribly on Tribute products.

Gro N Win has been my top choice RB for over a decade now. The only reason I stopped feeding it is because all the dealers in my immediate area quit/moved/retired. My only complaint is that they’ve tweaked the formula over the years with some ingredients I’m less crazy about than the original (artificial flavor, corn-based distillers grains when it was previously corn free, adjusted the amount of minerals), but it did not seem to make a difference for the horses. They still did phenomenally on it.

I don’t have a Tribute dealer anywhere in the state and thankfully it is sold on Amazon:). The bag is quite a bit more expensive to cover the “free shipping”.

JLR1, I noticed it on Amazon, and I did think the price was steep. Thanks, everyone!

I would use TC30. I used it for years and still would if it wasn’t so inconvenient for me to get now that Cargill isn’t milling for them any more. I already had to special order it and now would have to do so ridiculously far in advance, like weeks. Not practical.

TC30 is great but my horses are looking very good on the Essential K product as well.

I order my Tribute from Amazon too. It’s worth it to me.
