Refusing to go forward, stamping and kicking with hind leg... Thoughts on where to go medically?

We have one who does this. Radiographs showed a cyst on the stifle.

Many years ago I had a tb who did the same thing and it was also a cyst in a stifle.

I have never heard of that before, thank you for the suggestion. A quick google search says that bone cysts are usually accompanied by lameness, which my horse doesn’t seem to have. Did your horse have a lameness associated with the cyst?

By chance did your horse have any lameness associated with the cyst?

Not that I recall. However this was probably 25 yrs ago!
What I do remember is that we’d be riding around and then he’d slam the breaks on and kick out. We went to the St. Hy near Montreal and he was diagnosed with the stifle cyst and some arthritis in his hocks. If he wasn’t obviously lame to my teenage eyes he can’t have been at all comfortable.
Before the diagnosis we did the saddle route, the chiro, the massage until we figured out it was something that needed more in depth examination. He was retired shortly after.

However… The above is not to scare you. It’s just my experience with those symptoms and your horse may have something completely related. My coach at the time thought it was behavioral …however even lil teenage crackerjack knew deep down it was not. Good luck!

Eventually. We didn’t radiograph until horse was in mid-teens and showing signs of mild arthritis.
