Circle Oak Ranch Is phenomenal! The staff there is amazing and the facility is amazing. They have an underwater treadmill (hydrahorse) and hot walkers and last time I was there (January) they were planning to put in a horsey spa and much much more! When My horse broke his withers and (six months later) was ready to start building up some muscle, we brought him to circle oak and they put him on this plan that worked amazing!

A second for Airdance–Lisa (who runs it) is expert at rehab, and a better horse woman is not to be found anywhere. She’s the first place I would take my horse if he needed layup.
Another vote for Perham’s in Elk Grove. They did an awesome job for 2 horses from my barn.
FYI - Jerry Black is no longer at Pioneer. He retired and moved to Colorado.
I wouldn’t call it retired he was offered and took the position as the head of the Equine Studies department at Colorado State University, he’ll probably be working more now that he was before. He needs to and should leave a legacy, this is the perfect way for him to do it.
How incredible for CSU to have both Drs Black and McIlwraith there. I was joking with a trainer I know, wondering how long it’s going to be until someone Fedex’s a horse there for a lameness!
Fedex, Schmedex.
I’m going to hire you to trailer my perpetually lame horse up to see Dr. Black.
LOL! I’ll make you a deal and then I can take my gnat’s ass edge of soundness older gelding with me for continuity of care I owe Dr Black so much for being able to show him this summer. Couldn’t have done it without him!

A black day for NorCal! And a bright day for CSU. How cool to make a big prof of a clinical vet. I hope he can handle the politics of running a university department. Is Kevin Haussler also at CSU? A long time ago he left Cornell for somewhere in Colorado, I think. If so, that place sounds like quite the powerhouse.

I’m way late to the party but I just wanted to add that Dr. Black is still the Director of Equine Sciences and the ERL at CSU. I took his equine capstone class this semester (I’m actually procrastinating from completing his final exam right now) and I have to say, it’s a great class and he’s an amazing resource for students. He seems to know everyone in the industry on a first name basis! I think he’s retired from practice and the clinical side of things and he’s enjoying teaching and traveling. I’m glad he’s spending his time with students and continuing to help and grow the future of the equine industry.
